“Hey Angie,” Diamond greeted me enthusiastically as she put her chopsticks down on the empty tray. She reached out for mine. “Can you pass these to me please?" She asked me.
I nodded as I gave her the chopsticks, and she handed one to Sandi before returning the rest to me and turning back to face me. “It tastes yummy! Do you like it?” She asked me eagerly, trying to hide behind her short brunette hair.
Darlene leaned forward and whispered something to her. It almost sounded like, ‘don’t say that to a woman who hasn’t tried your food yet, darling.' “Yeah! Sure! It’s delicious, thanks,” I replied shyly.
I knew how Darlene loved to tease her. I’d have to tell Diamond about it later. After lunch, the four of us sat around the coffee table and played video games and movies in a quiet mood.
I ended up winning every time, much to Darlene’s annoyance, and then Sandi won. At about 10pm we heard the buzzer ring. “That must be the pizza delivery,” I told the girls. “I need to go pay.”
They agreed and I headed to our front door. I pulled the pizza box from my pocket and set it on the counter as I rang the doorbell. Soon after I entered, Diamond rushed out of the bedroom in her pajamas and ran right into me.
I held her shoulders to steady her. "Slow down, pretty one" I told her. “Sorry Angie,” she murmured and quickly moved past me and into the kitchen to finish putting her stuff away.
The others quickly followed and once all four of us were gathered in the kitchen, we dug into the pizzas, leaving most of it untouched except for the crusts. By the end of dinner, everyone had finished.
“Well,” Darlene clapped her hands. “What do you say we watch a movie?” “I’ll help clean up!” I offered happily.
I grabbed the dirty bowls and dumped them into the dishwasher, then I headed upstairs to change out of my dress and into more comfortable clothing.
When I returned, Darlene and Sandi were watching TV and drinking wine. Diamond and I were sitting next to them on the couch, eating popcorn.
“I hate movies, they’re so boring,” Darlene complained to the others. Sandi giggled. “I like movies though, and this is my favorite. What movie do you guys want to see?” Diamond asked us.
“I don’t care,” Sandi shrugged. “Then I guess we’ll watch this,” I said, picking up the remote control and turning the volume down. Soon enough we were all cuddled up on our blankets watching Die Hard.
I had never been big on action movies, especially horror ones, which were the only thing I would really watch. So, the fact that it was a classic was something I was used to, but watching it with the group made it different.
There was excitement in the air, the atmosphere was electrifying. This was a good night: I can tell by the way everyone’s eyes were focused on the screen.
