Laurel

"I'm glad we're off tomorrow. And I don't got school too." I told Tyler as we were walking out of the mall. Ain't no sleep like I'm off tomorrow sleep.

"Mmhmm," Tyler's half listening ass mumbled. He was too busy texting to pay me any attention. Now that I think about it, he has been on the phone more than usual lately. It only meant one thing. He was back with Latrell. I couldn't stand that nigga.

"Hellooo. Earth to Tyler." I waved my hand in his face.

"Yeah?" Tyler said but his eyes remained glued to his phone. His thumbs were swiping in a hurry. But what really annoyed me was the stupid grin on his face.

"Mhm. I know that look. Let me find out you back fuckin' with Latrell."

Tyler scrunched up his face so fast, that it looked like he ate a lemon. "Ew. Bitch no, that's old news. That's last chapter. That's history. That's-"

"The past bitch I get it. Now who's the current nigga?"

Tyler's cheek rose high as he blushed, "Wellll, his name is Cho-"

SKKKKRRRTTT!

Blinded by bright headlights, we froze as a black van speeding towards us. My heart dropped to my ass when two masked men hopped out. They wore black shirts tied around their heads. I couldn't see their faces. They were dressed in all black and moved fast. Before Tyler and I could run, burlap sacs were thrown over our heads and we were tossed in the back.

I couldn't help but wince from the impact of landing hard on the van floor. They didn't waste a second zip-tying my hands behind my back. I was uncomfortable and stuck in an awkward position.

"God, not like this, please," Tyler's sobbing caught my attention. I couldn't see him, but I could feel his body thrashing beside me.

A sinking feeling in my stomach told me this was it. I was really about to die. My mind started piling up with so many thoughts. I wonder who wanted me dead. Had Choppa finally caught on to who had robbed him?

I know one thing for certain. I couldn't blame anybody but myself for my predicament right now. In life, we all have choices, and our choices determine our future. But on second thought, maybe I can put the blame on somebody. I never had a choice! I was forced into this nefarious lifestyle by Jahari.

And look where his stupid ass got me. Let's not forget Trigga. I should've known he'd be another disappointment. Not only couldn't he protect me, this motherfucka betrayed me. My mom was another who failed in that department too. Fannie could be possibly facing life.

My heart sank knowing I'd never see her again. I wanted to cry, tear up even, but my body just couldn't. Fuck it, it is what it is. I accepted my fate at this point. Life was a bitch and I was done getting my ass whooped by her. I'm ready to be reunited with my dad.

The van came to an abrupt stop. Since I couldn't see, I was using my ears as my eyes. I could hear the keys being snatched out of the ignition and doors being opened, followed by footsteps. We must be here.

Two minutes passed and we were still in the back of the van. Since Tyler wasn't panicking or screaming, I think his ass passed out. I could feel myself starting to get frustrated. What the hell was taking so long?

"Did these niggas just kidnap and forget about us?!" Tyler shouted.

"You're awake!" I shrieked.

"I been awake this whole time! I just stopped screaming cause one of them niggas had kicked the shit out of me." Tyler responded. I couldn't help but tear up as I laughed. It was bittersweet I had my best friend with me. He has nothing to do with any of this but my choices sealed his fate.
