TW: child loss, miscarriage

The first thing that ran through my head once the light had cleared and I saw several different members' names on my body was a kind of relief. I felt almost overjoyed, until I saw her name. Her name was etched right above my left hip. Fear gripped my bones when I saw that. My name is on the other members, so if her name is on me, my name must be on her. She's with him right now, what will he do to her when he sees that. He wouldn't really hurt her would he?

I stood facing the mirror, a million thoughts running through my head when jisung walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, "Minho, tell me what you are thinking."

I turned around in his arms and leaned back on the bathroom sink, "I'm thinking, what if he hurts her because of us?"

He leaned his head into my collar bone, "me too... Chan is calling the driver right now, he's going to go get her."

I kissed the top of his head gently, "I'm going to go with." I pulled away to put my shirt back on.

He nodded, "that's probably a good idea... you and Chan always are the ones she goes to when she needs advice or for someone to listen."

The car ride was tense, chans knee was bouncing so hard I swore the car was shaking. The names were all over social media and the news. There had been no official announcement as to what they meant but theories were already flying. I had one hand on his thigh to try to stop the shaking and reassure him, and was searching for any official government message on my phone with the other.

When we got there we almost ran up the stairs to her apartment. Chan knocked on the door and there was no answer.

"Call her..." I said, "I know we said we weren't gonna call her to avoid trouble with him, but I'm scared."

He nodded. As he called we faintly heard the sound of her ringtone, she had a different ringtone for all of her most important people. Chan's ringtone was soft but unmistakable.

He banged on the door again, louder, "Robin! Let us in!"

My heart shattered when I heard it, a low moan, a whimper of pain.

Chan gently pushed me back, "I'm gonna bust the door open, stay back."

She had a spare key to both of our dorms, but Leon would never have let us have a key to their place, and the door was firmly locked. Chan gave it a couple good hard kicks and the door flew back, splintering the frame.

We ran inside and all the color drained from chan's face. We both stood stock still for a few moments, unable to process the situation. Robin, our robin, lay under a bookshelf in a pool of her own blood.

Chan's voice pulled me from my stupor, "she's alive, Minho, Minho!" He grabbed my shoulders and made me look in his eyes, "she's alive. Call an ambulance now."

As I was calling I watched Chan gingerly lift the bookshelf off of her, it wasn't light, but he did it with such care. I was still shellshocked, so I was having trouble answering the operator but I eventually got her address out and the state of her condition, though it pained me to say out loud. She had a gash on the back of her head, she told us to put pressure on the wound but try not to move her neck. The silence when I said she was pregnant threatened to rip my heart out of my chest.

They let us in the ambulance after they knew our names were on each other, no one knew what it meant for sure but everyone was fairly certain it was important. On the way over Chan called the others and filled them in and told them to get over there as soon as possible.

We sat in the waiting room for what felt like hours and hours with no news. When the doctor came out, I sprung to my feet to meet him, he put his hand on my shoulder, "there's good news and bad news."

"Good news" I said without hesitation. I needed to hear that she would be okay more than I needed air.

"She's stable," I visibly sagged in relief, "she has two broken ribs and a concussion, as well as just being generally beat up, but she should be fine."

I steeled myself, "bad news?"

His eyes softened, "The baby doesn't have a heartbeat."

The air was sucked out of my lungs, I felt hyunjin wrap me in a hug from behind. This would ruin her, she was so devastated the first time. Now she's lost another, and like this? Hyunjin was crying. I heard the others behind me crying, but I felt like there was no moisture left in my body. I couldn't cry, I didn't deserve to. I hadn't saved her, I hadn't helped her enough. I sank into one of the chairs heavily, my elbows on my knees.

I heard Changbin speak up, voice broken with tears, "is she awake, when can we see her?"

"She isnt awake yet, and as per hospital policy we can only let family in the room until she wakes."

He choked back a sob, "she doesn't have any family, we are her family!"

The doctor put a hand on his shoulder, "I'm so sorry, I will send for you as soon as she wakes."
