kiss it better

i knew somewhere in the depths of my mind

that someday you would

go,

a voyage to a land of devastation and revelation,

to leave me stranded on

the shore calling out your name,

the wind haunting me with

memories of you,

the waves washing over you

crashed against my cheeks,

and european battleships hadn't seen

the devastation

you wrought upon my heart,

history failed to prepare me

for the inconceivable affliction

devotion brought upon me.

my anguish wrung out

through the night,

the stars were beacons of your soul

streaming webs of scars across the sky,

and i wondered if you found

yourself at ease in someone's sweater,

if they had kissed you better.
