Begging a Phoenix to Fly

The angel I birthed
Is standing before me
The ash of my womb
Became a phoenix.
Ready to fly
Far from this nest
Before this fire
Scorches her wings.
"Mother, where to?"
"That's up to you."
But my child, please fly
Far from this nest
Where birds never sing
And eggs cannot hatch
Without fighting for a life
They'll soon grow to dread.
You'll have nothing to fear
Where your wings take you
You'll see the stars
From another tree
You'll ride the wind
Of a brighter sky
And you'll never meet a man
Worse than the one
Who raised you
So my angel, I beg you
Fly.
