The Multigenre Mashup SmackDown

Round 1, Part 1

Are you ready? Pens sharpened, window blinds closed, and coffee at hand? This is the moment we all have been waiting for:

So, how does this work? You already gathered that we are doing a Multigenre Mashup thingy this time. This  means, of course, the we won't make things  easy for you. Because easy is boring, right? On the other hand, we don't want to eliminate half of this wonderful field of submitters before you even got the invigorating feeling of being part of an extraordinary event.

For this reason, each of you will compete in both part 1 and 2 of the first round. The task for part one one will be to write a short story based on three pictures. Each picture has to be used one way or another in your story. Part to will be different. The 24 best scoring authors will move on to round 2.

The first prompt (Round 1 Part 1) will be given today, with a deadline on Saturday, July 15th. The second prompt (Round 1 part 2) follows after this deadline in two weeks.

Of course your story must qualify as military fiction. And as a secondary genre, we add a sprinkle of romance to the mashup mix. Also, all three pictures given below must be used in the creation of your story. Your story can be a maximum of 1500 words long, must be written in English, and fit the prompt.
