A few minutes earlier
Hobie walked out of his room, smirking. He was quite happy with who his new roommate had turned out to be. Pavitr hadn't left his mind since the detention, and he certainly wasn't complaining.
Upon meeting him, he'd instantly wanted to become closer to him. His bright smile lit up whatever room he stood in, his voice was sweet and calming, the blush on his cheeks whenever Hobie got just a little bit too close...
No! Hobie couldn't be thinking like that about this guy. Whoever he was, he wasn't worth losing what, or more who, he already had.
Because Hobie already had feelings for someone.
Of course, nobody knew about it. He had wanted to keep his feelings a secret, and most people weren't all that good at keeping secrets, especially those of someone as popular as Hobie. The person in questions name was Quinn Jackson
Hobie cared about them. He cared alot. They were a good person, beautiful, charming and kind while simultaneously being into alot of the things Hobie was. They'd go to alot of music festivals together, and sometimes play together if they found the time. Hobie even taught them guitar in their spare time; they were the only one who could convince Hobie to teach them, and even then it took 3 weeks of straight asking.
Except for Pavitr. He was going to teach him guitar. Heck, he was even the one who offered to teach him completely out of the blue.
But Hobie would never dream of betraying Quinn like that. They may not have been dating, but he'd liked them for so long it felt wrong to love anyone else, and even as friends they were extremely close. They would cuddle, stand unnaturally close, and kiss. It was sort of a 'friends with benefits' situation'. He stood in the kitchen making himself some cereal, deciding to pour them at the same time incase any government spies were watching to berate him for milk first or cereal first (in the safety of his own home, he was totally a cereal then milk guy).
In the end, he managed to convince himself that thinking someone else was cute wasn't weird, and that Quinn wouldn't be mad if they knew... right? They weren't dating so it was okay. And even if they were, Hobie didnt do anything- did he? He flirted a bit maybe, he stood quite close to Pavitr.
Conflicted and questioning himself heavily, Hobie started to walk back to his room, walking past Pavitr's when he heard something strange from inside. It sounded a bit like a sob, but muffled. Hobie grew concerned instantly and immidietly put down his cereal and knocked on the door.
No response.
Hobies worry skyrocketed and he knocked harder, hoping to get through to Pavitr.
No response.
Hobie was growing scared, worried for his new roommates safety, both from others and possibly himself. He had no idea what could be going on with the other man, but his brain subconsciously decided to assume the worst. Eventually, after a few seconds, he decided to bite the bullet and just go in.
Pavitr was huddled in the corner of his bed, curled up in a ball with his phone buzzing every once in a while. He was shaking violently, muttering under his barely audible breath. He was hyperventilating, and his eyes looked far away and tears streamed down his face like floods over a broken dam.
Rushing over, Hobie began attempting to talk to Pavitr, to calm him down and possibly figure out what had happened incase he could help, or at least assess the severity of the situation.
"Pav? What happened? Okay, uhh, just breathe with me, everything's gonna be alright.. your safe with me love.." Hobies voice wavered, trying to find the correct words as to calm the other man instead of making his current state of panic worse.
Hobie held Pavitr's hands in his own, beginning to whisper soft comfort to the man in front of him. These whispers were nothing, just small mutters of "its gonna be okay" and "just try to breathe" along with a few "ive got you's"
He felt Pavitr's hands squeeze his, I silent gesture that he knew Hobie was there. After a moment, Hobie released the others hands, and instead wrapped his hands around the shorter man, stroking his surprisingly soft hair while Pavitr cried into Hobies chest. Hobie was concerned, and wondered what had happened, but he wasn't willing to ask in the case it hurt the shorter man, or if he didn't want to talk.
Eventually, Pavitr fell asleep in Hobies arms, and the taller man sat there, still as a statue, savouring the feeling of Pav in his grasp. At some point Hobie made the decision to lay him down in bed and tuck him in before leaving back to his cereal.
While eating said cereal, Hobie heard a knock on the door. It was a familliar knock, one he'd heard many times before.
"Y'know its open, Quinnie"
Quinn opened the door excitedly, closing and locking it behind them. They then proceeded to walk around the couch to Hobie, just in time for him to finish his cereal. Quinn grabbed the bowl, put it on the coffee table and settled themself in Hobies lap.
"Hey Hobart"
"Oh my- don't call me that, its the ugliest name ive ever 'eard"
"I know, thats what makes it funny."
"Funny isnt the word I'd use."
"You love me really"
Hobie went silent at that last bit. He loved them, but was he in love with them? He would never know.
His train of thought was interrupted by lips meeting his own. Slipping their tongue between his lips as their hands went to his hair gripping it, while his landed on their waist by impulse.
"Hey, Hobie- oh.."
Pavitr's voice came from across the room, snapping Hobie out of whatever thought he'd been in. He detached his lips from Quinn and snapped his head over to Pavitr.
He looked defeated as he stared at the two, sadness welling in his eyes as he began to back away.
