Chapter 14

"I'm hungry."
"I need to go pee!"
"Are we there yet."
"Are we there yet."
"Where's everyone?"
"Where are we going."

These were asked every 3 minutes from Trace. I'm going to go crazy.

"Okay Trace you know what it's nap time!" I say as cheerly as I can.

"But it's still daylight-"
"No it's nap time." I said before he can finish, but with a smile.
"Yes Lexie." He politely says and in 10 minutes he's asleep.

I hear Carol chuckle and Carl's eyes our on the road. Judith is cuddling next to her older brother with sleepy eyes. Aw so cute.

"How are you so good with him?" Carol says, talking about Trace.
"Hmm I guess it's because I've known him all my life and I'm always with him, I got to admit I'm kinda over protective." I say giggling as well.

There was a long period of silence.

"Do you think we'll find them?" I say quietly. I'm talking to no one in particular.

Carl sighs and says "we're going to find them, all of them babe don't worry."

I see his straight lips curve into a grin.

"Babe?" I repeat showing a little sarcasm in my voice.

"Are you sure we're heading the right way?" Carol says awkwardly.

"Yes Carol." Carl says.

"I'm worried I want everyone here!" She says.

"Oh I forgot Thank you so much Carol." I say as her eyebrows furrow and a questioning look is on her face.

"You know, for Trace and Judith, with out showing them the sun they would've been taken and you would too." I say shrugging like she earned my trust.

"Oh that was nothing! You should've seen what Daryl was doing! He was the last one to be kidnapped. He fought so bravely!" She said looking off to space smiling like a teenager.

Carl and I both stare at her. I can see the red raising in her cheeks.

"Do..do you.... like my dad?" I say smiling.

She straightens her pose and looks away.

"Omg! You do! Carol he might like you too!" I say with so excitement I almost woke up Trace and Judith.

"No keep this between us......please" she says.

"No promises." I say.
"Fine. When are we there?" Carol asked Carl.

"In about 10 minutes."
I never knew how far it was till now.

There was once again a long silence.

"You know Carol your the bravest one here. Admitting you like Daryl even when we knew already. I wish Lexie can admit it." Carl says without warning.

"I'll let you too be." Carol says with that look of "OTP finally happening yasss" on her face. She plugged in her earbuds and closed her eyes.

After about 2 minutes of uncomfortable silence I decided to speak up.

"What the heck was that?" I mini yelled at him.

"Just because you said no doesn't mean I'm not going to stop trying."

"Look Carl as much as I want to be with you, I can't." I say regretting that was soon as I said it.

"You want to be with me?" He says with a hint of joy.

I realized there's no point in lying anymore.
"Yes but with the Carriers I can't afford to put you in danger-"
"Lexie please. We are always in danger. But I love you and want to protect you...as more than friends."

I so the target sign and sighed.

"Carl lets talk about this later. Let's focus on finding everyone."

Carl opens the car door and we both step out.
"Just think about it?" He says then cocks his gun.

I wake up Carol and tell her the plan.

Golden, her, Trace, and Judith will be hiding on the roof, while Carl and I go inside to see if anyone is there. If we aren't out in 30 minutes Carol will come down from the roof and surprise attack them.

"We should go to the back door, front doors are to cliché." Carl says.

I realized that Golden can't climb roofs. She's a dog. And I'm a idiot.

"Ill take care of Golden instead Carol."

Carl, Golden and I head to the back door while Trace climbs the ladder with Carol following right behind him with Judith hanging on. Judith is so much older than her age. It's crazy. I mean yea she's a baby but she can be mature when she has too.

"You ready?" Carl says.
I nod and Golden sniffs the door for any bombs or traps.

I don't think I've been this nervous ever.
What could happen? Who's in there. Where's the rest of the group.

Carl kicks the door open. There smart. An isle was moved to block the way.

"Carl no use. We can't move this without making a lot of noise."

Right then and there. Golden starts crying uncontrollably, she whines and lays on the floor.

Oh snap, she's going into labor.

A/N:
Tbh idk what a dog does when they're going into labor so yea hopefully I guess somewhat right.
