25. stop the theatrics
real life

CAMRYN REALLY HOPED THAT JACK WASN'T ACTUALLY COMING TO HER HOTEL ROOM. Camryn missed Jack, that was for sure, but she was too embarrassed of her own actions to look at him. Camryn had been keeping up with every one of his games, watching them on ESPN or ESPN+ if she missed it. Camryn spent the money to buy a subscription.

Camryn waited on the bed of her small hotel room, considering it was the cheapest one that was available. Her eyes scattered the messy room, knowing this has turned into almost like a trap home. Empty wine bottles scattered the dresser, clothes were stuffed into drawers, and almost all of Camryn's belonging were in the room.

She hadn't told Jack, but she moved out of her apartment in Vancouver. Camryn was going to stay in New Jersey no matter how their relationship pans out.

Also living in Camryn's hotel room was her dog named Oak, or Oakie as Camryn usually refers to her. While living with Ashlyn, both girls adopted their own animals. At one point their were five animals living there. Two of them were senior dogs that were about to pass.

A knock on the door made Oak start barking. "Sh, it's okay Oakie." Camryn gave the dog a scratch before opening the door to let Jack in.

Camryn took in his appearance, Jack looked... rough. His beard was grown far too much, his hair was a ratted and greasy mess, and his dark circles were purple and blue. Camryn could tell he was mentally exhausted.

"I feel like we are having an affair now that you are coming to me in a hotel room." Camryn jokes, letting him inside. Her hopes were to lighten the mood, but it was quickly shot down.

"Stop with the theatrics, Camryn." Jack quickly waved her off, moving past her.

Jack sat on the convenient desk chair that was in front of the cluttered desk. Jack's eyes scanned the desk, counting five empty wine bottles, two notebooks, and six post cards that all started with Dear Jack.

Jack turned around to see that she was now on the single bed, petting her dog Oak. Jack remember when she facetimed him to show Oak. Jack couldn't forget the excitement that Camryn was radiating, it was one of the times where he realized his true feelings.

"You don't seem to be doing much better than me." Jack started, gesturing to the wine.

"I have two full ones in the fridge too." Camryn grimaced, shaking her head.

Jack sighed, slumping further into the chair. "Can you tell me what happened that day, from your perspective?" Jack asked, peering up at Camryn. "Your interview too,"

Camryn visibly flinched, something Jack noticed, but nodded. "Well, the interview started fine. Some guy named Christian Matthews, owns a hell of a lot of rental property. The interview was normal, normal questions." Camryn took a deep breath, and Jack could hear the shudder in it. "Then he like, rubbed my shoulder. It made me so uncomfortable."

Jack hoped that was then end, but by the fact Camryn had started to shake, he knew it wasn't.

"Then he, he put his hand on my thigh, and he grabbed it so hard. I fucking froze, Jack. I couldn't move. When he started to move his hand up my thigh I pushed it off, telling him I wasn't interested in the position anymore." Jack watched as Camryn struggled to push through her words.

Jack rolled the chair closer to the bed, grasping one of Camryn's hand. It was a small gesture, but to Camryn, it meant the world.

"God, I tried to leave, but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me on top of him. Jack I couldn't get up, I thought he was going to do something to me." Camryn was now crying, not crying, sobbing. Her body shook harshly with every sob.

Jack held her hand patiently, not wanting to overstep a boundary that she could've set in her mind. After a few moments, Camryn wiped her eyes with her hoodie sleeve. Well, technically it was Jack's, he noticed the moment she let him in.

"Then, then I got out. I just wanted to come back and cry it out with you. Then I saw Sienna, and I seen her kiss you. Which, by the way, I now know that's how it went down. Totally different mind spaces." Camryn's sobbing had now subsided. She took a deep breath, then looked up at Jack. Camryn pulled her hand out of his and rest both of them in her lap.

"Your turn."

JACK UNDERESTIMATED HOW MUCH ANGER CAMRYN WAS HOLDING IN HER SEEMINGLY CALM STATE. All he did was repeat what Sienna apologized for, and suddenly Camryn went quiet. Jack could tell by the glare in her eyes that she was withholding yelling.

"So she only apologized for cheating on you, not for dragging me on an Instagram live, and you were okay with it?" Camryn repeated, dumbing down the whole situation. Jack just nodded slowly, nervous at the fact this had turned sour.

"You're joking, right?" Camryn's jaw dropped, scoffing at Jack idiotic actions.

"I know it sounds bad, but maybe she wanted to apologize about that to you!" Jack was the first to raise the volume.

"Are you actually fucking defending her right now? Seriously, Jack?" Camryn kept her voice quiet. At first, she wanted to argue about this, but now she didn't really want to. Her head was hurting, and she was on her fourth sleepless night.

"I didn't mean to Camryn, That's not what I meant." Jack apologized, putting his head in his hands.

The room was now silent. A few tears rolled down Camryn's cheek, stray ones that didn't fall when she was actually crying.

"Jack, can you stay here tonight? I haven't been sleeping well..." Camryn sheepishly admitted, looking down at her hands.

Jack's head shot up, he was dually surprised. Jack figured she would kick him out for the night to spend another month thinking. "I can, yes." Jack answered quickly.

Camryn laid down into the hotel bed that was now filled with all of her own blankets and pillows. Jack crawled onto the bed, laying next to Camryn. Camryn huffed, moving to lay on top of Jack. She buried her head into his neck, quietly letting out a whine of contempt.

Jack pulled the blankets over the two of them, then wrapped his arms around her. His curiosity got the best of him. "Why is literally all your stuff here?" Jack whispered, looking down at Camryn.

"I moved out."

The two sat in silence after her statement. Jack had figured she'd gone to sleep considering how routine her breathing was. Jack ran a hand up and down her back, placing a kiss on her head. He felt Camryn tilt her head up to look at him.

"We are going to be okay, right?" Camryn whispered.

Jack frowned, running a hand through her hair. "Yes, we are."
