"drivers ed?"

mahi'ai glanced impatiently down at the man sitting at the kitchen table with an impatient gaze whom's lazed tone perfectly matched his demeanor. it seemed even while he engaged with words, his father had no intent of talking. one could not tell if it was the red hue of his eyes or the bright morning sun- or, perhaps the topic that disengaged the man so greatly, seemingly focused on his phone and running his hands through his long, thick locs that while they were beautiful, mahi'ai had half a mind to slap them right off his head.

"mm." the hawaiian followed, stringing along his irritated tone of voice. "makuahine was bout to put me in it before you told me come over 'ere. i'm fifteen."
"the fuck is a maka hin?"

mahi'ai blinked over at the man, annoyance rising in the boy whom swore he could feel his head pounding from how badly his dad angered him.

"my mama." mahi'ai spat. "not t'at you know 'a."
"lower yo damn tone." the man strongly suggested, despite his consistency in his calm, level tone that mahi'ai expectedto have risen by now. "i'm listenin."
"..t'en w'at you t'ink? can we find a drivin school for me?"

the man was silent momentairly before glancing past him, and obvious hesitation in his eyes as he avoided the question.

"all that ain't really needed. you got yo brother."

"so? w'at if 'e don't wanna drive me one day? 'e's not my servant."
"then i'lla drive you. you got friends. you be fine."
"...no.." mahi'ai disagreed, raising a brow of slight disbelief over at the man. "it's somet'in i need for my own knowin. my friends at 'ome already got t'eirs."

"this yo home, and you'n need it, and you not gon get it because i just told you why. it take responsiblity to do allat. it ain't no light task, and you'n need to be all over the city like that."

"so you don' trust me." mahi'ai pointed out slowly, confusion blooming in the earnest expression that pinched with anger and misunderstanding, but most of all hurt. "is t'at w'at's t'is about? i don' get it-"
"i ain't finna go around in loops with you, and i ain't finna repeat myself." the golden-complexioned man said, abruptly silencing the boy with the harsh depth that suddenly flared behind the man's voice, completely stilling mahi'ai's action. "you don't need one. end of story taryn."
"mahi'ai." the frustrated fifteen year old hissed, not at all bashful in the bitter tones of condenemtn in his voice he purposed for his father, a glare painting his amber orbs that always seemed to ooze every emotion mahi'ai himself encompassed. "but i do need one. w'en did you learn 'ow to drive?"

"twelve, but it don't matter really. it's different." the man resolved in a dismissing manner, glancing down once again at whatever it was that could've been more possibly entertaining than the matter at hand with his child. it was as if he could not see common sense- or anything, for that matter, and the frustration boiled in mahi'ai until he could feel nothing a guttaral demise for the man across him in that moment, falling silent as he questioned the man who he was so quick to come to defense against zayn's points the other night. this was the man he was hoping to get to know?

"'ow's it different? cause i 'ave a yoni?"

"what?" adonis asked, furrowing his brows at the rather out of place-statement that had immediately pushed his father into exclaming, raising his voice rather loudly at the glaring hawaiian who screamed even harder, if not louder. the seventeen year old completely froze in the middle of the two, the defeaning noise paralyzing him momentairly before his shock was completely overwhelmed with an anger that had always been better at doing than saying. mahi'ai glared, his protests abrutply coming to a stop when his brother snatched him rather roughly away from the table, placing him behind him. "it's seven in the fucking morning and y'all yellin bout .. yoni and shit?"
"it's not my fault." mahi'ai screamed, tears of frustration brewing in his amber orbs. "'e doesn't even like me, or 'o i am, or anyt'ing even 'aving to do wit me."
"you just like yo mama, dramatic as hell." the eldest man glared. "ain't nobody said all that."
