"And it's going Dutch in 2021!"

Dyl's POV:

The first moments after that are still a blur to me. I remember getting out of the car, taking my helmet and balaclava off as I heard people chanting Max's name. My heart pounded against my chest, the voices blurred. I kept a numb expression on my face.

I lost. I lost the championship.

My ears rang as I swallowed hard like I was trying to digest the things I was feeling, not knowing how to react.

"Dylan." A voice pulled me out of my thoughts. It was Christian. I breathed heavily looking at him, not even being able to reply. "You did great, okay? You did good Dyl." He assured me and I shook my head slightly. "You did. You did." He repeated.

I looked to the side and met Max's worried eyes. He walked towards me and I immediately walked away. I turned to look at him and saw the engineers lifting him off the ground. I kept walking and felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped startled and turned around.

"Hey, hey, it's okay." Lando tried calming me down with a soft tone. "Come here, I got you." He pulled me in a hug and I wrapped my arms around him. "You did amazing, okay? You performed out there." He whispered rubbing my back and I nodded closing my eyes.

I looked up and saw Theo and Mick. Lando let go of me and rubbed my shoulder giving me a comforting smile before walking off.

"Hey Dyl." Theo extended his arm and wrapped it around my shoulder, he had a noticeable sad smile on his face.

They guided me towards the garage, trying to comfort me on the way. They suggested I should skip the post-race interview and I couldn't agree more.

I was sat in my driver's room with my hands on my head. I couldn't believe what just happened. Images of Max's worried eyes flashed through my mind. I closed my eyes and tried taking a deep breath, it was shaky.

Mick and Theo just sat besides me, keeping me company. They didn't know what to say but their presence was enough, I didn't want to be alone right now.

There was a knock on the door. Theo stood up and opened it. I turned around and saw my dad on the door.

"Dad." I stood up running to him.

I wrapped my arms around him like I used to do when I was a little girl. He wrapped his arms around me tightly.

"My princess." He whispered and placed a soft kiss on my head.

"We'll give you a moment." Mick spoke. "Nice to see you Mr. Gonzalez." He greeted my dad.

"You too Mick." My dad smiled at him and they walked out, closing the door behind them.

"When did you arrive?" I asked.

"A few hours ago. Just got to see the last lap. You gave it all honey." He told me and I shook my head.

"I could've given more." I whispered, feeling my heart sink at just the thought.

"Dylan, even if you don't get the title or the trophy, I'll always be proud of you. You're an amazing and talented driver. I'm so proud of you my little girl." He told me and my eyes got watery.

I pursed my lips and went in to hug him again. He rubbed my back.

"I'm so proud of you." He whispered putting his hands on my shoulders.

"Mom hasn't called." I spoke and I saw the expression on his face change.

"I'm sure she will baby." He told me and I nodded pursing my lips.
