(Y/N's POV):

I smiled, turning up my music a bit as the car drove on.

Yesterday, I got a call from Najimi. They told me that they were going to the local pride parade, and asked if I wanted to come. Me being me, I accepted without thinking, since my brain only registered the words "pride parade" and "do you wanna come".
Of course, to say that I was a little bit nervous would be a major understatement. I had never actually been to a pride parade before. Like, ever, in my entire life. Though, I did have a good idea what one would look like, thanks to Najimi's description, and it put me at ease knowing that it was a safe space for people like me and them.

My sister turned to me, noticing that I was nervous.
"Something bothering you, Y/N?" She gave me a concerned look.
"Uh, well..." I hesitated. "It's... mainly the pride stuff... I'm sorry-"
"What're you sorry for?" She asked, confused as to why I was apologising. "You have't done anything. Besides, it's fine to be nervous for something like this. This is the first pride parade you've ever been too."
She gave me a smile.
"And, well... I'm sure it won't be the last, either."

I nodded, continuing to listen to my playlist. It helped me to take my mind off the fears I had for the parade. I mean, I'd get to see Najimi, so... I guess I just thought it would be worth it in the end.

After a while, we arrived at the festival. I said my goodbyes to my parents, and I left for the parade, my sister following close behind.
I checked my phone. Najimi should be around here somewhere. I dropped them a message, and they replied with haste, saying that they could see me. I turned around, and-
They were there. Najimi had 2 rainbow flags face painted on their cheeks, smiling widely as if it were Christmas day. They had donned a non-binary flag as a cape, draped over their casual clothes, fluttering glamorously in the light breeze.
I gulped, feeling my cheeks heat up.
"Y/N!!!" Najimi cheered, rushing to pull me into a hug. "You're here!! God, I'm so glad you could come! Honestly, this place is amazing!"
I couldn't help but give a bashful smile.
"Haha, yeah... I've never actually been to pride before..." I admitted, scraping my shoes against the grass.
Najimi took their hand in mine.
"Well..." They looked into the air, striking a dramatic pose. "I shall be your guide!"

Najimi sped towards the main area, dragging me with them.

(Najimi's POV):

The main event was absolutely bustling with people, each and every one of them comfortable in their identities from the looks of it. I looked to Y/N. Their eyes carried a distinct sparkle in them, as if they had just awoken to a previously undiscovered world.
"This is amazing..." Their voice was barely audible, but it was fat with excitement. Though Y/N was never the type to actively seek out big crowds, this was different. It was as if that, after years upon years of searching, they had finally discovered where they belonged.

To them, this was home.

They spotted a market in the distance.
"Oh, hey, look!" They exclaimed, pointing in its direction. "They're selling flags there!"
Without realising, Y/N held my hand in theirs, striding towards the flag shop. Once they had reached there, they wasted no time in making a purchase, buying a non binary flag and tying it in a cape, just like I had done
"There!" They flashed a bright smile. "Now we're matching!"
I laughed, pressing a kiss to Y/N's forehead. I knew they'd absolutely love it here.
I looked into their eyes. Their face was full of hope, a slight red tint on their cheeks from the kiss. I could almost see the happiness sparkling in their eyes.
Y/N's sister snorted at the gesture.
"Well, you two lovebirds seem quite happy here," She said, with a wry grin on her face. Y/N scoffed.
"Hey, look, at the end of the day..." Y/N took a breath. "I'm not the one who spent an entire night crying over a girl, am I?"
Their sister opened their mouth to protest, but soon closed it, a defeated expression casting onto her face.
"Alright, fair play, fair play..."

I checked the time, noticing that the parade was just about to begin.
"Hey... Y/N?" I looked to them, their eyes meeting mine. "The parade's about to begin. Do you wanna head over?"
They nodded, excitedly, holding my hand.
"Yeah, of course! Let's go!"
And so, we headed over to the crowd, full of people waiting for the parade to begin. I squeezed Y/N's hand, making sure that they were safe.
There was a minute left until the parade. People were waving about their pride flags, content with their identities. I couldn't help but smile a bit myself.
I had always had a struggle with my gender, now that I think about it. From my identity itself, to the fears of how friends and family might react, it's been a long road of self discovery. But, well... now that I'm here, I feel like I've made it. Me and Y/N both.

Soon enough, the gates opened, and people poured into the streets.

(Y/N's POV):

People began marching into the streets, waving about flags and cheering, freely expressing themselves. Najimi and I both supported a non binary flag, raising it high for the whole street to see, as passers-by and the like stopped to watch the crowd passing through. Among the passers-by, we noticed Komi and Tadano, standing side by side, a look of confusion appearing on his face as he noticed Najimi.
It was like nothing like I've experienced in my life. It felt... special, to say the least, with the way we all banded together.

After the parade, we all settled down in the next park over, where the post-parade festival was being held. There, Najimi and I sat down together. I was exhausted from the excitement of the parade. Najimi seemed to pick up on this rather quickly.
"Tired?" They asked.
I nodded, resting my head on their shoulder, feeling my eyes begin to flutter as I questioned how much sleep I actually got last night.
"You can sleep if you want," Najimi added, in a soothing voice. As they said that, I felt my eyelids go heavy, and I drifted off to sleep.

(A/N: hey all!! very sorry for the long wait, i've been struggling loads with writers block and was fighting tooth and nail with my brain to get this chapter out... that aside, i hope you enjoy!)
