The Mermaid

John was out on his boat, He had been out on the water for most of his life, ever since he was little his father would bring him out on the boat with him, fishing in the middle of the ocean. He had on a bright blue shirt that he thought complimented his olive skin and black curly hair.
When he caught sight of something strange, it was the first time he had seen anything like this. He had been fishing for tuna, and there was a neighboring boat that he had been keeping an eye on for the last few hours, it seemed to be trying to catch something it the net of tuna it just hauled up out of the water, all he could see was something glimmering in the depths of the net when he pulled his boat a little closer he took a closer look and to his astonishment, he saw a beautiful mermaid in the net!
Her golden locks were tangled and the fish kept hitting her as they flopped to try and get back into the water.

He was mesmerized by her beauty, but then her terror filled green eyes met his and they brought him back to earth fast .
To his horror, he realized that the fishermen on the boat had harpoons and knives in their hands, they waved their arms around and were shouting about a demon and that they needed to kill the sea witch.
He knew he had to do something to save her and fast, they were gonna catch her soon, his boat was smaller so he could outrun them very easily.
He quickly grabbed a harpoon gun from his boat and shot at the fisherman's net, his father made sure to teach him how to shoot the harpoon gun so his shot was perfect on the first try and the net split on the bottom, dumping the tuna and the mermaid back into the sea.
The fishermen saw him, but he quickly started his boat and took off.
The mermaid was always on his mind after that, she was so lovely, he wished he could see her again, and wished he could hold her.
He shook his head and went back home.
Over the next few weeks he kept fishing, secretly searching for the mermaid whenever he went out.
And then she was there, hanging in the edge of his boat and looking up at him

She thanked him for saving her life and told him her name was Mara, and then she told him that she wanted to repay him and that she had been watching him, and she wanted him as her mate.She said she could give him the power to turn into a merman, and have a finn, just like her. She said this gift would allow him to join her in the sea, and that together they could explore the wonders of the ocean and protect its inhabitants from bad men that wanted to destroy it.

John was amazed, but he didn't hesitate to accept her offer, he had been falling in love with her since he saved her. He felt a strong bond with the mermaid, and he wanted to spend more time with her, maybe even his whole life, he had nothing to live for up on land, his parents had passed, leaving him, the only child, alone

Soon, they were living together in a seaweed forest, their home was a huge rock cave, with a comfy seaweed bed and rock furniture, though it was mainly for them to look at.
They kept an eye on all sealife.
After a couple years they had two beautiful twin sons both with John's olive skin and Mara's golden blind hair and green eyes , and they were very happy little boys, always playing with the otters and smiling.

John and the mermaid lived together in the ocean for their whole life and they were content in each other's company. They watched their sons grow and soon Mara was pregnant again.They were such a wonderfully happy family, and like the Mara had told him they lived with the sealife and kept them all safe.

John had found love in the depths of the ocean, and he never missed his life on the surface, it was too peaceful down on the ocean floor with his mermaid and his sons. They had created a beautiful life for themselves.

This short was not edited, literally wrote and then published. It's just a short little thing, as I was falling asleep I got the idea, so I jotted it down and am sharing it with you all! Happy Saturday! XOXO
And then I of course had to make a cover for it XD 😆 sorry that it is do short! at around 800 words it's like my shortest work ever!
