You weren't sure if you expected the days to completely whizz by or to crawl slower than a snail in a pool of molasses, but they somehow did both.
It was a little weird not seeing Hero for a few days, but you managed. You spent more time with your extended family— after all, that was the reason you were visiting Faraway in the first place— and got to explore the town a little further. Kel came over on the first day and managed to convince you to play a basketball scrimmage with him (aka he dragged you to the local park's court and you just went along with it, despite your reserves about the ice). Naturally, he wiped the floor with you, but it was surprisingly fun, and you enjoyed the experience.
Kel also gave you some of Hero's cookies and said that if you didn't have any now, the rest of the family would devour them before you came over again and he wanted you to at least have some.
You spent multiple minutes thanking him profusely and offering to buy him lunch, which he politely declined due to "other things" he needed to do (he looked disappointed though). You considered going by Gino's again, but you swore that you saw someone with bright pink hair inside, and decided that you could find somewhere else to go. You were still a little terrified of Aubrey and her gang. As curious as you were, you could tell that it was a heavier topic with Hero and Kel and you didn't want to push too hard.
Aside from that? Well, not a lot happened. A lot of it was just relaxing, which sometimes felt like it dragged, but then you'd look back three hours later and get real confused because it only felt like fifteen minutes and time was just speeding by and you didn't know what to do now and yo
In any case, soon it was the official day. Your family took you out to breakfast, but the rest of the day up until that evening was free. You decided to go over a little early, out of both boredom and a desire to see other people you knew.
The crisp air was particularly harsh as you made your way down the street. Before, it was obviously uncomfortable, but now it was just biting cold. Despite all the layers you had on, it almost felt like you'd been dunked in a pool of ice water after wandering around Antarctica in summer clothes.
Well, maybe that was a little bit of an over exaggeration, but the point? It was absolutely freezing outside. You pulled your jacket tighter, shivering ever so slightly.
Fortunately, the house was right ahead, and Kel opened the door less than three seconds after you knocked.
"Heya, Y/N! Come on in, you look freezing," he exclaimed and hastily gestured for you to get in.
"Thank you," you breathed, immediately feeling warmer the second the door was closed behind you. "It's ridiculously cold out there."
"No kidding!! Did you see the forecast?"
You shook your head as you untied your shoes, and Kel walked past you into the living room. "Well, a really bad snowstorm is supposed to blow through soon. Maybe that's why it's so crazy cold out there!"
"Oh, wow— like a blizzard?" you said in surprise, straightening up.
"I'm not sure!! I just know the meteorologists said that it was gonna be bad." Kel smiled a little like he hadn't just dropped the fact of a potential blizzard. "I can take your coat, by the way, if you want!"
You smiled and shrugged off your coat. "Thanks, Kel. It might freeze your hands off, though, it's still really cold from being outside."
"I can feel the frostbite getting to me already," he groaned dramatically as he plucked your jacket out of your hands. "Look after my dog and my siblings, please... oh, speaking of, Hero's not here right now, but he'll be back soon."
