Awkward silence

BRIARS P.O.V:

My mum suddenly announced before I went to bed that the Taylor's would be hosting another neighbour get together.

I groaned out load in dismay as my mum pity laughed at me.

"You'll survive darling it's only one dinner"
"I know mum, goodnight"
"I love you Briar"

She flicked off the light and I was left alone in the dark.

I was excited for tomorrow.

Fast forward to tomorrow

"WAKE UP BRIAR" My mum incessantly screamed at me.

I yawned and opened my eyes, what time was it?

6.35am.
School doesn't start till 8.

I groaned in discomfort as I hauled my ass out of my bed and headed to the bathroom.

I brushed my teeth and washed my face, gently applying skincare products.

I had finished my makeup and decided to do small flicks in my hair.

I went with a simple black top and grey sweatpants, simple and comfy.

It was now, 7:35 and I figured Natalia and Crimson would be here any minute.

They always picked me up and we would all ride to school together.

I heard a familiar honk outside my house so I grabbed my school bag and ran out the house.

"Come on get in girl" Crimson laughed as I made a pathetic attempt of jumping into the car.

Everyone exploded into a fit of giggles as Natalia started driving off.

I really do love these girls. Behind all the bitchy looks and the pink bows, I really couldn't ask for a better set of friends.

We made it to school with a whole 10 minutes to spare, quite extraordinary for us.

As we all hopped out the car Natalia started running off in the opposite direction, Crimson and I looked at each other in confusion but weren't surprised when we saw Natalia walking back over to us with Hayden's arm round her shoulder.

Of course he was with Hayden. I think they go to school together.
Of course I know Hayden picks Arlo up. Every day Natalia is late I see Arlo get in his car.

If I was going to ignore him I wasn't going to pretend to be stupid.

I shot Arlo a 'friendly but don't fuck with me' glare and he gave me a small smile in return.

Crimson gave Hayden a disgusted look as he announced to everyone him and his 'babe' had to go to class.

Crimson side eyed me as he said it and we both burst into giggles.

We received a funny glare from Natalia as her and Hayden began walking away.

Now there were three of us.

The air suddenly became dense with an incredible awkward silence.

"We have biology now don't we Briar?" Arlo croaked out.

Why was he trying to talk to me?

"Yes" I muttered in response.

Crimson shot me an apologetic look before she stated "Gotta go to english cya guys" and walked away.

I started walking towards our biology lab and Arlo was following me like a lost puppy. People walking slowly bothered me so incredibly much.

"If you're going to walk with me, walk beside me not behind, you're not a lap dog. Or are you?" I snickered.

Arlo shot me a filthy glare but he did quicken his pace and was now walking beside me.

ARLO'S P.O.V:

As Briar and I continued walking to Biology I couldn't help but look at her.

She looked gorgeous.
Her hair fell gently around her face, falling in all the right places.

Her mascara made her eyes look fiercer, but I knew she wasn't.

Briar is the definition of love.
She's so unbelievably perfect.

She looks like the kind of girl who would be madly in love with bouquets of flowers filling her room and love notes being stashed in her locker.

Briar is the kind of girl you fall in love with. Not because you want to, and not because you tried to.
But because she's always been herself and that's just the right amount of love anyone needs.

But I wasn't going to tell her that. She would think it was a joke and doubt herself and I don't want that.

I don't want her to think she's any less than she is.

The boys began jeering and shouting when they say Briar and I walk in together.
We weren't particularly close together nor were we holding hands.

I shot them a dirty look as Briar darted away with bright red cheeks and an embarrassed expression on her face.

Our biology teacher rambled on and on about the
usual plant cells and animal functions.

I was trying to concentrate and make notes but it went in through my ear and out the other.

Biology was pointless.
School was hopeless.

After an hour of Mrs Terris babbling on we were finally dismissed to leave.

I wasn't going to try my luck to walk to break with Briar so I let her go with her friends and stayed with mine.

I watched as she walking off laughing with her friends and smiling and I couldn't help but wish that I was the one she was smiling at. I was the one she was laughing with.
