When the train comes to a halt, it feels like the earth stops spinning. Fear gnaws at my veins when I raise from my chair. The black jeans I'm burrowing from Chase are completely soaked in my own blood. Acting like it's a coffee stain is the only thing that keeps me from going insane.

Laura follows me outside. The warm sun is skimming of our skin and is a reminder that I am indeed still alive. I stop when I hear Lisa's footsteps behind me.

"Jax," Lisa's voice poisons the air around me. When I turn, she's smirking and hands me a school bag. "You forgot your bag." She grins as if this was one big joke to her.

"How did you..." I stop when I feel Laura's hand slightly against my arm. "You know what, never mind." I mutter, snatching the navy blue bag out of her hand.

The bag feels heavy, and I wonder what could be possible in there. When I turn to ask Lisa, she's talking to Laura.

Laura's eyes are big when she sees Lisa in front of her. "But ma'am, do you know that your nephew is hurt and needs special..."

Lisa groans. "Oh fuck dammit, he'll be fine. My nephew is a great actor and always acts as if he's badly hurt while we both just know that that blood is fake. Get your ass back home, honey, before your parents miss ya for dinner." She rolls her eyes and turns to me, her grey eyes spitting fire. "Now, you, get your ass up." She says.

The wall I've been slumped up against is suddenly not that interesting when I hear the tone in her voice. Lisa grabs my arm with such a firm grip that I bite my tongue.

"We'll be going now." Lisa says with the sweetest smile she can give.

Laura is frowning as she reads my face. When I try to mouth something, Lisa pulls me away from the scene and we walk to wherever we're heading, leaving Laura behind.

When we're out of the train station, I realize where I'm here for.

For the Mafia, that's it.

We are in a city, I don't recognize. Lisa turns to me and begins to yell. "What the hell were you thinking?" She snaps.

I shake my head, watching the Converse shoes Chase gave me a while ago. "I don't know."

"I would've murdered you if it weren't for the boss." Lisa muttered.

My heard perks up. "What do you mean?" I ask.

Lisa looks at me. I see something flickering in her face that makes me worried: pity. She sighs, reaching for my arm and squeezing it lightly. When I dart my eyes, I see the old Lisa I remember. "Just... stay away from her. She tends to have a reputation with people like you." That's when that cold and hard face comes back, and I reminded she is, in fact an annoying woman. "Now, you'll be fine with your leg. Miss Azers will get you a surgeon and you'll be fine."

I now realise something I haven't noticed before. "Wait," I say. "Allison and Chase are married?" Of course, I knew that Allison and Chase were together. Kissing each other on the cheek, meeting each other tonight, all that sort of stuff. But never did I think that they were married. I now wonder what kind of dress Allison wore and I try to imagine Chase on one knee at the proposal. Some things, aren't likely to happen but in this case, it is.

Lisa throws her head back in laughter. "Oh, those two, my sweet peas." She shakes her head as we walk further, my hand gripping her arm so I can lean most of my weight onto her. "Allison is pretty new but I raised Chase as if he's my son." She chuckles. "It ain't the way that kids turn out the way I wanted. I couldn't stop him from becoming a ruthless killer like me." She looks up at the sky and I wonder what's going through her head as pain volts through my veins. It's an odd distraction.
