~One Year Later~
"I just... I still don't understand it," I told her, shaking my head in disbelief. "I saw what happened, I-"
"Gally, shh. It's okay. I'm here now," Jules told me, softly kissing my trembling lips. "Yes, Michael did drag me back into that burning building but I fought him off. When the building collapsed, I was already in a sort of safe area and got extremely lucky that I wasn't squashed or burnt to a crisp."
"So why did it take you so long to find me?" My voice cracked as I spoke, the pain and hurt too much to deal with.
"I was badly injured. I had no mode of transportation and no clue where the Safe Haven was. Do you know how difficult it is to find somewhere that could literally be anywhere in the world?"
"But how did you survive for a year?"
"I found a group. They took me in and kept me alive. I'm so grateful for them, even if they were all nearly Cranks. Around the time it became evident I had to leave before they Turned and tried to kill me, I saw this jeep racing across the desert."
"And that was Thomas and Minho on their supply run."
I smiled. "Yeah. They accidentally found me. Obviously the second they spotted me they took me here to you and now I'm back. I'm not in great condition or healthy in any way, shape or form, but I'm here now and that's all that matters, right?"
"Of course it is." I wrapped her in the biggest hug I possibly could. A whole year without her and I still hadn't gotten over her death or started to love her any less.
"I'm just so sorry that it took me this long."
"You have nothing to apologise for," I reassured. "It would've been impossible to get here on your own. I mean, the chances of you running into the boys are infinitesimal."
The two of us carried on talking about how we were doing and I was brought back to when I was still a part of Lawrence's group and Jules had just discovered I was still alive. God, that was all so long ago, it felt surreal.
For the next three years, I spent nearly all my time around her. It was hard for her to adjust and even harder for her to find out Newt didn't make it, but eventually she settled in. We had our own little hut and the feeling of waking up next to her every day was indescribable.
My life, for the first time ever, was perfect and nothing could ruin that; not even when Jules confessed that she had some memories back and Janson was her dad. It wasn't like she had betrayed anyone due to that - she didn't choose for that to happen and she was scared her friends would hate her. If I was here, I would've done the exact same thing.
"Gally, the bonfire is starting!" Jules called from across the beach. Ever since Jules had arrived, she'd made changes to the Safe Haven which massively improved it. Like having monthly bonfires (inspired by the Glade) which everyone looked forward to.
"Just give me a second!" I replied, nailing the last two bits of wood together that I needed to.
Before going to the bonfire, I looked out at the ocean. It was beautiful. And the stars in the night sky only made the scene even more heavenly. Here was paradise and I never wanted to let it go.
And with Jules here? Well, it was even better.
I loved her with my whole heart, my whole being, and I'd made countless promises to myself that I would ask her to marry me one day. It was a promise that I would happily keep.
I loved her and she loved me and nothing would ever change that.
A/n: Well this story is now over!! I know the ending is extremely rushed but when I first released this fanfic, I promised it wouldn't take a year to write but on the 21st of August (it's the 20th now) it would be a year since I published the first chapter and I hate breaking promises so I had to do my best with the zero time I had to get this done since I started regularly updating again by the deadline I majorly regret setting for myself.
I'm aware of how much editing this story requires and don't worry, I will do this editing but for now the story is complete but some time in the near future I will revisit it and go into more detail, especially for the ending because I had such high hopes and good ideas for it but I physically didn't have the time to add them in (I've literally got twelve minutes before it's the 21st so yknow).
I just wanna say an enormous thank you to all of my readers. Seriously, I love you all so much and I wouldn't be able to do this without you. Your constant support (and patience!!) means more than you will ever know and I can't wait to share my next story with you.
Genuinely, I love you all so much and stay tuned for my next story (more than likely a Minho fanfic).
