I was lost in the Mountains.

It was raining and dark.

The thunder rumbled.

I looked around my surroundings.

Nothing looked familiar.

I sobbed gently.

"I don't know what to do."

I laid my head on Flicka's mane.

"Where do we go, Flicka?"

Flicka was leading us somewhere.

Rob

"What'd they say?" Nell questioned Rick.

"Can't get a helicopter out here till morning." He answered.

Jack was standing in the bed of the truck.

Howard was standing next to the truck.

"Boys lost the trail. Probably won't be able to pick it up again till daylight." Norbert informed.

"Norbert, give me a horse." I ordered.

"Two horses." She corrected.

He was talking with Miranda.

"Y'all need to calm down." He told us.

"No. We're not gonna calm down till we find our daughter." Nell argued with Norbert.

"She'll go home." Howard spoke up.

Both of us looked over at him.

"No, honey. She can't. Not in the Mountains. Not in the dark." She told Howard.

He joined us.

"Not Katy— Flicka. Hey. Our Mountains are her home too." Howard suggested.

I nodded my head at him.

"You're right."

Nell looked up at me.

"Let's go. When we get back to the Ranch, we're riding out." I ordered.

Howard lifted Miranda out of the bed of the truck.

Jack jumped out of the bed of the truck.

"Weather's coming in." Norbert warned.

We weren't worried about the stupid weather.

I got in the driver's seat.

Nell got in the passenger's seat.

Jack and Howard were in the backseat.

I drove off.

Katy

Flicka was still leading me somewhere.

The thunder rumbled.

She huffed.

I looked around my surroundings.

They looked vaguely similar to the Creek.

"This is our Creek, isn't it?" I questioned.

"You brought us back." I pointed out.

I let out a relieved sigh.

"Thank you, girl. Let's go home. Come on."

I took over since I knew where I was going now.

Rob

I was still driving home.

Katy

We were still riding along the Creek.

Flicka was trying to back away from a tree.

"What is it? What is it, girl?" I questioned.

I couldn't see anything in the dark.

She snorted.

Flicka backed away from the tree.

"What is it, girl? Huh?"

She neighed at the tree.

"It's okay, girl. It's okay. It's okay, girl. Come on. Come on. It's okay."

I bounced on Flicka.

She neighed, bucking her hips.

I yelled as I fell off Flicka.

She bolted.

I heard snarling up in a tree.

I looked up at the tree.

I gasped as I saw the Mountain Lion.

It lunged out of the tree.

I grunted as the Mountain Lion landed on me.

I was trying to fight it off me.

The Mountain Lion mauled at my head, face, ears, neck, arms, hands, fingers, chest, stomach, and legs.

Flicka was kicking giant stones at it.

The Mountain Lion snarled.

She neighed harshly.

Flicka took one of my curls in her mouth.

She was dragging me away from it.

I had passed out from blood loss.
