Mavis, Marcus, and Caius were nestled together on a velvet sofa in Aro's study. The walls were constructed from thick stone and the only source of light came from a few flickering candles scattered haphazardly around the room, casting eerie, dancing silhouettes on the cold, rough-hewn walls.
A massive mahogany wooden desk dominated the center of the room, its surface cluttered with ancient tomes, parchment scrolls and cryptic artifacts. The desk itself was intricately carved with macabre designs, depicting scenes of knights in battle and ominous creatures lurking in the shadows.
Mavis rested her head on Marcus's shoulder while his arm, strong and protective was draped lovingly around her shoulders, drawing her in. Beside her was Caius, their hands intertwined together as the woman played with her mate's fingers.
Mavis decided to say nothing when Aro sat on a different couch that was quite far from her reach. However, she wasn't oblivious whenever he looked at her with longing. "I met Jane on a street. A woman was going to hit her but I interrupted them before she could lay her dirty hands on my sweet girl" she said.
"I'm sure Jane was saddened that her meal escaped" Caius hummed, twirling a strand of curly hair. His mate's touch was electric, igniting a fire within him that threatened to consume his self-control. Every caress, every stroke of her fingers on his skin sent shivers down his spine. He tried to focus on the moment, on the sensation of their bodies pressed close together, but his thoughts kept wandering.
"You don't have to remind me. I still feel guilty when I think about how I fed Jane human foods for weeks" Mavis pouted. Although the blonde guard reassured her many times that she didn't mind, Mavis was remorseful of her action.
Yes, she had met a few vampires before but it wasn't the cold ones type so she guessed she shouldn't feel sorry anymore. Right?
Marcus nuzzled the crown of her head, sniffing his mate's sweet scent as he unconsciously emitted soft rumbling sounds. Soon after he realized it, the gentle king found himself straddled between two supple thighs, face to face with Mavis who had a massive smile on her. "Marcus, my sweetheart. Are you... purring?"
Taken aback by the sudden change, his crimson eyes widened and he cleared his throat. "Oh heaven, I'm sooo happy!" the fae squealed.
In her knowledge, the act of purring can only be done within a mated pair. Her father told her it was an unspoken communication that created a sense of contentment and satisfaction for them. It also signifies the presence of love in their relationship.
