❝ When you are young, they assume you know nothing. But I knew You.❞

━━ Taylor Swift

I CAN MAKE OUT SCREAMS AND THE CLAMOURING CONTINUES AS I FEEL HAYMITCH GRAB MY WIRST, PULLING ME BACKWARDS. I NEARLY TRIP, THE SHOCK OF THE MOMENT BEING TOO MUCH for me to assimilate. Cato follows, keeping his hand on the small of my back, as if he was making sure I wouldn't run back. I also manage to hear Effie's screechy claims, clearly in distain concerning the latest events.

As far as I know, Haymitch has only been here once, when he was on his Victory Tour decades ago. But he must have a remarkable memory or reliable instincts, because he leads us up through a maze of twisting staircases and increasingly narrow halls. At times he has to stop and force a door. By the protesting squeak of the hinges you can tell it's been a long time since it was opened.

Haymitch, along with Cato's mentors, is seething. His mouth is downturned into a frown, eyes narrow and eyebrows furrowed. "You two have a very simple task!" he begins to scold, a mix of anger and worry brewing in his irises.

"A simple task? Do you know how hard it is to look into the eye's of a family I've destroyed." I immediately bark back. "I couldn't just stick to Effie's inconsiderate speech, when I — "

"I don't know if you noticed, but someone was killed, sweetheart." Haymitch yells, sarcasm dripping in his words.

"Don't blame her, blame those fucking Peacekeepers." Cato seethes, flexing his jaw.

"Don't you think I know that, Gladiator boy? But guess what, Jade and you don't have the power in that kind of situation. President Snow does." my mentor remarks, sending both of us daggers through his glare.

"He has to know I didn't mean for that to happen. Not after what he told me!" I blurt out.

"What? Told you what?" Brutus demands, and the majority of the adults stare at me, confusion etched on their expressions.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Cato adds, crossing his arms over his chest. I can feel the atmosphere shift, especially between the boy from Two and I.
