I thought the gods were supposed to claim their children right away.

Nope.

Nope, nope nope nope nope.

Not for me.

Let's start from the beginning, when the signs of being a half-blood first came.

I lived in San Diego, California with my Dad, step-mom, big sister, and little half-brother.

Normal school days were ....well normal school days.

You know how it is: Math, history, lit., science, etc. etc.

The day everything flipped upside down felt like a normal school day, just until lunch.

I was sitting near the basketball court, when a teacher, Mr. Barlowe, asked if he could see me.

There was literally nothing wrong with my life until this moment.

Yes, I had ADHD, but not dyslexia, like other demigods.

We walked a bit, and I finally worked up the courage to ask Mr. Barlowe what this was all about.

"Um, Mr. Barlowe, why are we walking this far out?" I asked

I'd heard the lunch bell ring a couple minutes ago.

He just stayed silent.

Finally he stopped right behind the theater, and turned to me.

"Looks like the saytrs are getting rusty" He said "I've known you we a half-blood since October!"

October.

The one month of the year that always had one wrong thing with it.

This past year, the city decided to put goats up to eat down the brush.

They got out on October 17th.

The school was on lock down, don't know why, the goat weren't even near us.

Somehow, a goat got in.

The little ball of fur came straight to me, sniffed me and left.

What's weird was that all the goats went back into the pen after that.

Mr. Barlowe leaned in sniffing just like the goat did.

He grinned a, awful, devious grin.

I had the feeling he would have eaten me if we hadn't heard voices around the theater.

He leaned back and grumbled, "Go back to class."

I ran around the corner, bumping into my classmate, Sol.

"Where have you been?!?" he asked "I was sent to come find you!"

I told him about Mr. Barlowe.

Sol looked pale, and we went back to class.

I couldn't think for the rest of the day.

I faked being sick to go home early.

My sister, Terra, had driven me home from school.

She seemed to notice something was wrong because she kept asking questions.

"DAD!" I called when I walked in the door.

My dad poked his head out of the Kitchen.

He was a teacher at Valhalla High School, and they had already gotten out for the summer.

"Yes?" he asked politely

I told him about Mr. Barlowe and with each sentence, he started getting paler.

My dad cleared his throut and said, "There are some things you need to know, Terra call Sol."

I didn't know why he wanted Sol to come over, the only person I was really friends with was Alex, and she had left in March due to family issues.

"Does this have something to do with that camp Terra goes to every summer?" I asked

They both nodded as the doorbell rang.

Terra opened it.

With Sol, standing in the doorway, was that one goat from October.
