Mario: "I hate packing! Why do we need so much stuff anyway?"

Meggy: "Sweetheart, you're folding things all wrong. Here, let me show you how to really pack." With her expert techniques, she had Mario's bag neatly organized.

Mario smiled gratefully. "Thanks Meggy!" He gave her a hug. Their preparations were coming along smoothly.

Meanwhile...

Bob: "Ugh! I just wish SMG4 would get that motor home fixed!"

Bob: "Ugh! I just wish SMG4 would get that motor home fixed!"

Luigi: "You know how slow Mario's best friend can be. It'll probably take him all day just to get an oil change." They reminisced about SMG4's past vehicles.

Boopkins: "Why don't we play a game to pass the time while we wait?" Eager to entertain themselves, Luigi and Bob leaned in interestedly.

Boopkins grinned. "We should challenge Mario to a quiz! Something like 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader' would be perfect." The others roared with laughter, fully on board.

Bob began listing everything they'd need to properly set up the challenge. A lightbulb lit up over Luigi's head. "I know where we can find a 5th grader! Follow me."

The three scurried through Mushroom City to the neighborhood elementary school during dismissal. Children were running around playing. Luigi led them straight to the playground, surveying the crowd.

"Aha, there's our man! Hey Timothy, can we borrow you for a little bit?" called Luigi to a small boy absorbed in a book. What challenge would this brainy 5th grader present to Mario? Only one way to find out...

As they walked Timothy back to Mario's house, Bob began eagerly explaining the rules of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" to their opponent

As they walked Timothy back to Mario's house, Bob began eagerly explaining the rules of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" to their opponent. "There will be 5 rounds of questions from elementary school curriculum. If you get a question wrong, Mario will have a chance to steal. But if you maintain the lead after all 5 rounds, you win the cash prize!"

Timothy listened intently, digesting the information. He had top marks in all his subjects and was rarely challenged at his intelligence level. This would be a fun test to see how he stacked up against an adult. Meanwhile, Luigi and Boopkins continued whispering and snickering to each other. They had no doubt their friend Mario was in for a rude awakening.

When the group arrived, final touches were being put on the game area Bob, Luigi, and Boopkins had set up in Mario's backyard. Meggy had also come over to help with the packing and was showing Mario the fold-and-roll method for maximizing space. From the open window, Luigi called out "Heya bro! We've got a little game that'll cure your boredom while we wait!"

Mario popped his head out curiously. "A game, huh? Well I do love a good challenge. What did you have in mind?" Luigi motioned for the others to come outside, and Timothy was shyly introduced as their 5th grade opponent. Bob laid out the quiz rules once more for Mario, who seemed unfazed. "Ha, a quiz for kids? How hard could it be?" he scoffed.

This only made Luigi and Boopkins laugh harder. They knew the arrogant plumber was in for a rude surprise. With both contestants now available, it was time to get started. Bob led Mario and Timothy to their podiums under the makeshift "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" banner. The questions, the prizes, the rivalry – was Mario truly smarter than an elementary schooler? There was only one way to find out...
