Author's POV
Kalindi walked slowly to her husband who was sitting on the couch in his study room looking at something on his phone, his eyes were moist with love, adoration and many more emotions but longingness was most prominent one and his fingers moving gently across the screen like it was not his phone but something very precious.
She peeked from behind him without making a sound to see what he was looking at but when her eyes fell on his phone on which he was looking at a picture of him and Khanak in which both of them were looking very happy, her heart got filled with an unknown emotion which started suffocating her and her eyes breamed with unshed tears.
"My selfishness cost you a lot, Khanak" she spoke in her mind gulping down the lump formed in her throat as her hand reached to left side of chest to rub there. She felt heavy and unbearable in her heart when she remembered what she had done to her. she was the reason everything bad had happened to Khanak till date.
She supported him for her selfishness which landed Khanak in jail, away from her family and husband. She will never be able to forgive herself for this but she didn't have the courage to confess it in front of everyone because the day her truth came out, she will lose everything, her children, her husband for whom she had done all this.
She walked out of the room the same way she came in, pressing her mouth with her hand to stop the sobs that were threatening to burst out of her throat.
She ran to her room while sobbing violently as she couldn't take it anymore.
She entered in her room locking the door behind and threw herself on the bed, pressing her face into pillow while her hands clutched the same pillow in her tight fists.
She was no longer able to control her tears because the guilt inside her was eating her. She cursed herself that how could she do that to the one who had given her not only her mother's place but also loved her.
She is selfish bitch
"It's true that a stepmother can never be MOTHER" she whispered as tears rolled down from her eyes wetting the pillow under her.
Her heart wrenching sobs started echoing throughout the room and she just cried loudly cursing herself but she fell silent when she had no more tears left to shed.
"The truth is bound to come out. You can't keep the truth hidden forever" a voice inside her spoke her which made her heart constrict painfully as she knew every single word of it was true but she was still not ready to confess her crimes.
"But if I tell anyone what I've done in the past, I'll lose everything" she whispered to herself, horror dancing on her face as sets of fresh tears begin to welled up in her eyes which she thought were over.
"How can you save everything when you lost yourself, the moment you held his hand for help you locked yourself in a prison of guilt that will never let go of." That same voice rebuked.
The chain of her thoughts was broken by the ringtone of her phone which she ignored at first but after it rang continuously she picked up the phone and without checking who was on the other side of the line she spatted as her guilt was already making her vulnerable and this call was making it worst for her "If I am not picking up the call, it means I don't want to talk, so why are you irritating me by calling me again and again?"
"I am not at all interested in knowing whether you want to talk to me or not. Why didn't you tell me that Digvijay has arranged a new doctor for Ratna." Hearing his chilly cold voice, a shiver ran down in her spine as her heart started beating faster and sweat formed on her forehead.
