It was the weekend, finally. I woke up that day feeling motivated as hell. I even worked out double times. I even went to my riding practice without whining about it for the first time!

Eva, my next door, childhood friend, came along. She was side eyeing me the whole time because she sensed something different in me. She even accused me that my mind was preoccupied. Of course, she didn't miss a chance to ask about every little detail about my new school. She thinks I'm a lab rat stuck in an interesting experiment. She called it EXPERIMENT! For God's sake!

I had to leave Brandon out of the things I told her about. I don't talk about my personal life much often anyway. I'd call myself a little content or clossed off sometimes. Eva knows that I don't open up easily, too. That's why we became good friends in the first place.

All this energy was firing through the morning only because it wasn't until afternoon til I saw Brandon. It was the first day of me tutoring him as we made a deal.

I drove all the way to his house. I told him that we better study in a cafe or something, but his parents refused to let him out since he's grounded. He texted me that, and I replied with, "It's okay. I'll come over." And he was happy that I was understanding.

I won't lie, saying I wasn't nervous. Even though I don't have a legal reason to be. But something about seeing Brandon lifestyle made me tense.

I rang the doorbell after parking my truck on the sideway. I checked myself one more time. The crew net sweater and the jeans I'm wearing are fine, I guess. I ruffled my hair nervously.

The door got open, and a woman showed up. She must be Mrs Reed. Light hair and big eyes. I can see where Brandon's got his genes from. She looked up at me. "You must be... James?" She asked with a smile.

"Jimmy. Jimmy Jordan." I corrected politely.

"Jimmy, then. Oh, please come in." She moved aside so I could get in. "You can take off your shoes. Here." She pointed at the slippers. So I did as she told me.

"I'm gonna call Brandon for you. Why don't you wait in the living room?" She patted my shoulder, and I slightly bowed my head.

I entered the living room and took a seat on the couch. Their house has a cozy vibe. Even though it was a one floor house and it looked very humble on the inside, but something about it felt comfortable.

I saw some pictures on a shelf, and I thought I saw Brandon in it, so I got closer to take a good look at it. Brandon have been always a tiny kid! And apparently, he has a brother. An older brother.

"That's Alex."

I flinched and straightened up, looking at the man who had just entered the room. He must be Brandon's father. Mr Reed.

"Um! Sorry, I was just..."

"No, it's okay. It's Alex and Brandon in that picture. They were pretty close, growing up." He approached me and offered me a hand shake. "You must be Jimmy. Brandon's friend?"

"Yes, sir." I shook his hand. Something about this man seems prestigious. Yet I didn't feel comfortable to the way he's gazing me.

He took a seat and signed to me to join him, so I did. He adjusted his glasses, eyes hawking me. "So, Jimmy, you're Brandon's classmate?"

"No, sir. I'm in graduate year, actually."

"And how come you're friends with my son?" He tightened his eyes at me!

"Well, um! back then, I didn't know he was two years younger. I thought he's a graduate as well." To be honest, I thought he was much younger. I mean, he looks like he's in middle school or something. But I felt lying to his dad, and I don't know why.
