Author’s POV

Y/n stepped into the university building, the familiar echo of footsteps, murmurs of students chatting, and the morning hum of campus life wrapping around her like a routine she hadn’t asked to repeat. Yet everything felt... different. She adjusted the strap of her bag, found her locker with muscle memory, and slowly placed her things inside.

Just then, a voice rang out—loud, energetic, unmistakably familiar.

“Hey, basketball girl!”

Her body stiffened in reflex. She turned, half-expecting it to be someone else using the nickname that had spread like wildfire after that match. But it wasn’t just anyone.

Jeon Jungkook.

Running toward her like an overexcited puppy, his hair bouncing with every step, slightly disheveled in the kind of way girls swooned over. His cheeks were flushed from running, and he had a spark in his eyes that confused her.

Why is he coming toward me?

He came to a stop right in front of her, slightly breathless, placing a hand on his knee to catch his breath. “You—pant—you’re really fast…”

She blinked at him, unsure how to respond. “Do you… need something?”

“Yes.” He straightened up, looking her directly in the eyes. “I want a rematch. Just me and you. One-on-one. No distractions. I’ll defeat you this time.”

His voice was filled with a conviction that almost made her laugh. Almost.

“No,” she said coolly, turning around and walking away, her calmness like a splash of cold water.

Jungkook blinked. “No?” he muttered in disbelief and quickly jogged to catch up with her. “But why not?”

“Because I don’t want to,” she said without stopping.

He was left standing there again, speechless.

To his credit, Jungkook didn’t give up.

When Y/n entered her classroom and sat down, she sighed in disbelief as Jungkook sat right beside her, unbothered.

“What are you doing?” she asked, trying not to let the irritation show too much.

“What?” he said innocently, placing his bag down. “I’m just sitting.”

“You usually sit in the front.”

“I wanted to sit here today,” he said, mimicking her deadpan tone from earlier with a smirk.

She narrowed her eyes at him. What game is he playing now?

A few seconds later, Mi-cha entered and immediately stopped mid-step. Her eyes scanned the sight in front of her like she was seeing an alien lifeform.

Y/n sitting beside Jungkook?

Her best friend looked at her with an expression that silently screamed, EXPLAIN.

Y/n shrugged.

Mi-cha sat on her other side and leaned in, whispering in a panic, “What in the world is he doing here??”

Y/n tilted her head toward Jungkook and whispered back, “Ask him.”

Mi-cha looked at Jungkook who gave her a friendly wave and then casually looked forward like he hadn’t just turned her entire morning into a K-drama.

She turned forward too, muttering under her breath, “I need popcorn.”.

The classroom hummed with low chatter as students filed in and settled into their seats. The teacher hadn't arrived yet, giving the room a rare moment of calm chaos.
