Y/n POV
Brimstones office
"Absolutely fucking not!" I shouted, my anger boiling over. My eyes glared fiercely into the commander who sat unwavering in his chair.
"Unfortunately it's an order, you have no choice In the matter. You will start with twice weekly sessions, both spanning two hours. These will be held within Sage's dorm and are non negotiable. Session times will be decided by Sage and if you skip any of these then I will see you mentally unfit for combat and place you on medical leave" The commander stated. His voice was deathly calm and stared into my glare unwavering.
"This is bullshit. My bias towards radiants holds no impact on my ability to work with them nor my ability to perform!!" I shouted again, my anger brewing. My eyes snapped to the healer that most likely started this. She nervously shuffled under my fiery glare, refusing to look me in the eye. My attention was brought back to brimstone once he spoke
"This isn't about that and you know it! While your lack of synergy with the team can impact performance, your attitude and skill on the missions makes up for that. This is about the trauma you've experienced from your own dimension that you have refused to talk to anyone about" Brimstone replied, his eyes staring into my own.
"No one needs to know anything about what happed, it has no effect on the present. This is just to satisfy your own curiosity, sticking your nose where it doesn't belong!"
My accusation seemed to infuriate the commander because his fist slammed down onto his desk, cracking it slightly. My eyes widened in suprise, not at his anger but at the pure strength he held to crack his pure oak desk. I looked back towards him as he spoke again.
"Enough! This is non negotiable, either attend these sessions or consider your fight over!" He angrily threatened. I smirked slightly at his bold threat, which seemed to piss him off even more.
"Don't act cocky, your experience and talents may be valuable but that doesn't put you above authority."
"Well I c-"
"And don't even try to threaten taking Kay/0, he may be extremely valuable but killjoy has already examined him, given the right materials she could replicate him. You have no power here so shut up and listen to sage and attend these sessions or I'll have you removed from this protocol!!!"
"..." I grit my teeth in anger, standing up out my chair and glaring down out the commander. I thought he was similar to my own but now I can see they are completely different.
Sage suddenly spoke up, dragging my attention away from the commander.
"O-obviously you are.. not accepting of this so we can start our sessions tommorow, just after lunch in my room so you are-" as soon as I heard sage confirm the time of the session I stomped out the office, slamming the door behind me. The frame shook violently from the stress it was put under but I couldn't care at this point. The commander was right... I had no power here. Finally being able to fight these radiants and win gave me a feeling I haven't felt in a while.. even if I had to work with radiants it was worth it to get back at that purple haired bitch.3rd POV
Brimstones office
-just after lunch in my room so you are-*SLAM* energized" the healers voice went quiet as y/n slammed the door. Brimstone huffed at the blatant disrespect but chose to ignore it in favour of comforting the saddened operative stood beside him.
"This was expected sage, we knew he wasn't going to be accepting of this idea" he spoke, attempting to lift the mood of his operative but it did little to improve her mood.
"I understand that... I guess I'm just not used to someone despising me that isn't an enemy... I'm going to prepare some notes for tommorows session, thabkyou for your time commander" sage replied in a saddened tone before leaving the office, gently closing the door behind her. Brimstone sighed, staring at the closed door for a moment before getting back to his copious amounts of paperwork.3rd POV
1 Hour later
Shooting range
After storming out of brimstones office, y/n decided to head to the shooting range to vent out some of his anger. A few staff members aswell as a few operatives within the range were tempted to approach him but decided against it after gazing at his snarling face. Considering the angry operator was holding a live gun, everyone would agree approaching him at that moment was a bad idea... nearly everyone.
"Well well well what's got little old you down in the dumps~" teased the sadist of the protocal, purple eyes piercing into the back of the fumin man. He grit his teeth but ignored the woman in hopes of her leaving, naive to her persistence when it comes to teasing people.
"Aww, don't ignore me. It breaks my heart" she spoke again, a predatory grin snaking its way onto her lips. Reyna examined her target from head to toe, taking note of his tense body.
"As if you have one" he finally replied, rolling his eyes. Y/n reloaded his gun before taking aim down the range but was interrupted by reyna's hand grabbing the gun before he could continue massacring the targets.
"Let. Go" y/n demanded to which reyna chuckled. A small tug of war ensued before reyna suddenly pushed forward with the gun, forcing y/n into the wall and pinning him against it. Before she could say anything, y/n had stomped on her foot and shoved her back, letting go of the weapon at the same time. Reyna seemed momenatrily surprised, but her shocked look quickly dissipated back into her usual smirk. Although her piercing purple eyes were now glowing slightly.
"Aww, you have some fight in you this time. I do like when my prey fights back~" she spoke with a sultry tone, sending shivers up y/n's spine. If there was ever a struggle to differentiate between this worlds radiants and omega world radiants, then reyna would be the exception. The key difference between the two sadists was mirror reynas overwhelming bloodlust and reynas overwhelming... well, lust. Y/n was struggling to decide which one was worse.
"Just back off radiant, I don't care for whatever motive you have for comin here" y/n spat, turning to grab another assault rifle while keeping reyna in sight. The radiant in question seemed to widen her grin upon noticing this.
"As much as I would looove to keep teasing you, I'm not going to get much out of you right now if your little temper tantrum keeps up, so how about a little wager, sweetheart?" she asked, gaining a slightly interested look in return before it disappeared once again.
"I'm not betting with a radiant. Especially one so... sadistic" he replied
"No little one, nothing like that. Not yet, at least. No, I'm talking a wager in which the winner gets to ask any question they want, and the loser has to answer honestly. The game? Whoever hits the most targets in 30 seconds. Interested?"
Y/n stood there for a moment, contemplating the deal. While he doesn't want to admit it, the wager was interesting. There's a multitude of things he could ask her, but currently, he had one burning question. What was her obsession with him? It sounded stupid, one of the most influential radiants who could possess a range of knowledge. But the only question he wanted an answer to was why she seemed so fixated on him.
"I'll... agree to that on two conditions" he finally replied. Reyna let out a small, humourous laugh.
"Oh? Then please name them darling~"
Again, with the pet names.
"First condition is that we do this tomorrow morning, 7 am. There are too many eyes here. My second condition is no abilities. If you're going to compete against me, then you will do it with your own skill, not a crutch." He wasn't stupid. Her powers are an amplifier to her killing potential. Increased fire rate (somehow), increased speed amd increased reaction time. All that would give someone an edge in a wager such as this one. Reyna seemed to find this amusing but for once didn't comment.
"Okay, little one, it's a deal" she agreed, holding out a hand. Y/n glanced at the hand with an almost disgusted expression before reluctantly shaking it.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning~" With that, reyna left the room, pushing the gun she held into the hands of a radom person who passed her.
'This might be a terrible idea' y/n thought before putting his gun away and leaving as well.Time skip
Cafeteria
Y/n POV
It was around 18:00, meaning I needed to head to the cafeteria if I was to get my food before it became stale. Fortunately, I had found Kay/0 on my small journey, which allowed me to vent to him about my circumstances while I was eating. The bot in question was sat opposite me, listening to my frustrations.
"Improved relations with fellow combatants can raise your effectiveness in missions, sir. While I understand your frustrations, see this as a way to work better with potential team mates" Kay/0 stated, causing me roll my eyes.
"And what percentage do you estimate my effectiveness to improve?" I asked
"By my calculations, your effectiveness would improve from 72 percent to 89 percent sir" The bot responded. That suprised me slightly, I didn't think it would be that high. Still not anything major, though.
"While not minimal, that estimate is not enough to warrant mandatory therapy sessions for my anti radiance views and a few bad dreams. It seems this world's brimstone has taken his readily available combatants for granted. "
"I believe that's a harsh judgement for a decision you believe to be wrong, sir. This world's brimstone hasn't had the same experiences as our world's brimstone did. Due to his increased army strength he can more accurately take more care for his soldiers health" kay/0 responded. Robotic thinking irritates me sometimes
"He doesn't believe you leaving would be too detrimental because he believes killjoy could recreate you after looking at you once."
"... it appears your assessment of the commander may be more accurate than I previously thought. "
At his reply, I laughed. It seemed he took slight offence to the commande, calling him replacable. Which I agree with, it took our killjoy months of research to even begin building him. One look would not allow her to accurately or effectively recreate another Kay/0.We sat in silence for a moment while I ate my food. The peace that I had been looking for all day had finally appeared... for less than 30 seconds. My eyes flicked up to see a few members of the protocal, human and radiant, approaching mine and kay/0's table. I silently mourned the now lost moment and let out a deep sigh.
The seats around the table creaked as the group of 6 sat down around us. Raze, Killjoy, jett, Neon, Pheonix, and Yoru. Jett suddenly broke the silence as she gained a lopsided grin.
"So murder bot that tried to kill us is your friend?"
...
*sigh*
