Although sleep took over your body quickly last night, the quality was questionable to say the least. Another night of tossing and turning, so restless even your dad came in to see if you were okay around 3am when he was alerted by the muffled sobs and shuffling bedding. By the time morning rolled round and your alarm clock commenced it's screaming fit, shrieking you from your restless daze, you were exhausted and so unprepared for what today was going to bring in terms of Billy. He was already pissed about your first day back at school, learning about your ride to school from his goons made his blood boil intensely so you immediately wake in fear, quietly pondering whether it would be better for you to just drive yourself. You didn't wanna hurt Eddie though, he's been a constant source of happiness despite your negligence of your friendship and even if you drove alone, it wouldn't fix the issue of being around your friends at school. As your mind spirals into a cyclone of worry and plotting for a stress free day, your process is broken by a timid knocking at your door. "Y/N? You awake in there?" your dad calls out from the other side of the weathered wooden door. He's worried about you, you can already hear it in his voice and in his uncharacteristically soft knock on the door.

"Y-yeah... I'm up. Come in!" you strain through the yawn that's catching in your throat, desperate to hide your exhaustion from your dad to prevent the onslaught of questions. He's an excellent cop, sure, but he tends to bring the interrogating tone home with whim - especially when it comes to you and El.
"Hey kiddo..." he softly smiles as he walks toward your bed and perches carefully on the edge, "I don't wanna rush you, but your gonna be late... if you're feeling up to it that is?" he's trying desperately yet calmly to coax an explanation of last night from you, he knows you don't break easily but it won't stop him from trying. You see the concern smeared across his face as he fidgets with the lace trim of your duvet cover, contrary to your friendship with Eddie, your dad really is your best friend - it's hard to conceal things from him.
"I'm okay. Fine, really. Just had a bad dream." you avert your gaze to avoid eye contact as he can read your face like a picture book when you're lying. He's not satisfied with your answer, but he knows he's not getting it out of you right now.
"Okay... okay." he groans as he pushes his palms into his knees, with a creak and crack he's on his feet again. "I know you're practically an adult now and telling your dad the truth probably isn't cool or trendy anymore, but I want you to know... you can still talk to me, okay?" he's slowly shuffled his way back towards your door before turning to face you as he grips to the wooden frame. His softly painted smile does nothing to conceal the hurt and concern that his baby is keeping something from him and it makes your heart ache.
"I know, dad. I can handle it, but I promise I'll come to you if not." You mirror his false smile as you lie to both him and yourself, you have no idea how to handle Billy anymore... but he can never know.

The morning gets away from you and before you're even fully dressed you hear the familiar honking of Eddie's van, signalling that he's taken it upon himself to pick you up today. You race down the stairs as you frantically tussle your hair into a half presentable ponytail, completely forgetting the traditional thermos of coffee for the morning drive. Pausing at the front door for a moment, you pull your jacket on and throw your backpack over your shoulder as your dad sits in confusion and concern in his armchair from across the room. "Kiddo?" he calls out just as your hand reaches the handle of the front door.
"Dad, please?" you groan as you await his onslaught of questions, knowing he is a persistent bastard when it comes to his kids welfare. You hear the deep exhale of the breath he's been holding as he prepares himself for questioning, only to be taken my surprise by his question.
"I'm working late tonight, El's gonna stay with Joyce after school... Did you still wanna stop by the station? Grab that ice-cream I promised... maybe even one of those terrible chilli dogs you love so much?" You're speechless. You really thought it was gonna be the interrogation you'd been silently begging would never come.
"Sure, daddy... About 7ish?" your eyes remain fixed on the door as you hear Eddie's van honking again from the curb side.
"7ish it is. See you later, kiddo." you can hear the smile in his tone as he finally gets the promise of one-on-one time with you he's been desperate for since you laid eyes on Billy.
