"Wake up!"

I opened my eyes. The sun shone through the windows and I couldn't bare to look anymore.

I covered my eyes with my hands.

"Stop that."

"It hurts."

"Just cover one and open the other, hun."

I did. It didn't hurt as bad.

"School today."

"Mmmm." I got out of bed.

She picked me up.

Momma.

"Daddy's asleep, so we gotta be quiet, okay?'

"Mmmm."  I don't feel like replying. I want to go back to sleep.

"Come on, wake up! It's your first day of school, Saylor."

"Mmmm."

"Wake up."

Her voice wasn't as sweet anymore.

"I am."

My voice was raspy, like Grandmas when she talks normally.

"Sure."

Momma laughed.

She sat me on the couch.
"Arms up."

I listen.

She puts a frilly dress on me. It's bright, I think, but I don't really care. She puts on these weird leggings that I think match.

"Look at how cute you are!"

I don't look.

She picks me up again. I open my eyes all the way now.

She brings me to the bathroom. It's bright and blue in here.

My hair is big. It stands up on top of my head and I don't like it.

Momma sprays something that smells good but weird onto my head and brings out the rainbow squiggly brush.

"Noo!" I cry. "No brush."

"Yes brush."

She begins to brush my hair. I cry. She soothes.

"Come on, look at that! Your hairs all done now. Do you want a bow?"

"No."

She persed her lips. "Yeah you do."

She fixed my hair too.

The first day of school so far wasn't very fun.

"Now go sit on the couch while I pack your lunch, kay?"

I nodded and walked back to the couch and fell asleep.

When I woke up, school was cancelled.

It had started snowing.

"It just doesn't make sense. It's September! We live in Georgia!" Mommy said. I smiled and rushed to the patio door.

"I can go out and play?"

"Mm. Fine."

I love mommy.

Daddy woke up, later. I think I woke him up because I screamed when the snow went down my jacket. Momma frowned and pursed her lips when he walked by us after we came inside. He was angry walking.

"Daddy! Pick me up!"

He frowned, but did so anyway. "Did you see the snow, angel?" He asked me.

Momma frowned harder.

"Uh huh! I played in it for like, ever!"

He smiled, and I felt a warm feeling in my chest. I made him happy. I made his angry go away.

I'm special.
