LOVE; HOW SILLY AND DOCILE A THING. A pawn in the hideous game of life that exists to be used and disregarded. It changes and changes and shifts and shifts. All of it belonging to a person one day and replaced by hatred the next. It's as unpredictable as the tide, in and out in a breath.
Such a docile thing, indeed, and Selina Kiligrew treats it as such. Love, the thing she's never had and never will believe in, is her weapon, her trade, and her currency in life. With her Mind Mind Devil Fruit, she utilizes the falseness of love to survive. Placing a shopkeep under her faux love for long enough to steal a new outfit or making her server pay the bill for her when she has no money.
Maybe Selina would have grown to not use her fruit in such a way had she truly experienced love. But being born to a father who could care less whether she lived or died, her survival was in her own hands.
Crime was the only life Selina had ever known. Stealing, manipulating, and evading the Marines is all her life is. She may wish for more but that's the thing about routines people fail to mention, how hard they are to break.
However, when the man she calls father sells her out, Selina is forced to leave her home and find a new playing field, one that operates on completely new rules with a boy who wants to be Pirate King, a thief, a swordsman, a liar, and a chef who views love as something Selina never has, something real and true.
