Pleas of Futility

Insomnia

A jittery, jumbled mess
Cords tangled,
Spilled all over the page;
A car in a dress
Concepts not quite fully baked

And there's red in this room that I trapped myself inside
The words repeat themselves,
Poorly structured lines

Messes in crayons
An empty box of checkers
Numbers in phrases
Like silent, deadly letters

And blood in the chair
Unmade beds I should-but-do-not sleep in
Another mixed up fantasy
My mind tricks me to believe in

Rats in my dresser
Shoes in my sheets
Emptied, ordered thoughts
No wonder I cannot sleep.
