(Note: I'm sorry for not posting in a while and for any mistake in this chapter (and probably in the following ones), my co-writer and I are very busy with our studies. Thank you all for your patience!)
The rays of the sun shone through the window to illuminate Elliott's face, the morning light eventually waking him up. He opened his eyes slowly, and he noticed that he had slept on the couch at the Mario brothers'. His head was a bit painful, so were his eyes. He felt like he had been through the worst night of his life as he had barely slept, his rest plagued by numerous nightmares starring King Boo. He yawned loudly as he sat up on the couch and rubbed his eyes with his hands to clear his vision.
He jumped a little when he heard someone placing a cup of coffee down on the coffee table in front of him.
"Good morning Elliott," Mario said, a wide smile on his face. "I made you some coffee. Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah," Elliott answered in a weak grunt.
"If you say so. What do you want to eat for breakfast?" Mario asked, placing his hands on his hips. "We've got cereals, cookies, I can even make you some slices of bread and jam if you want."
"What jam do you have?" Elliott asked after thinking for a moment about what he wanted to eat.
"We have strawberry jam, blueberry jam and plum jam."
"I'd like... some slices of bread and blueberry jam, please."
"No problem!" Mario gave Elliott a thumbs up before walking in the kitchen to make him some slices of bread and bring him blueberry jam.
Mario's good mood and overflowing energy in the morning impressed him. How could someone be so motivated in the morning?
Elliott took the cup of coffee that Mario had kindly made for him, and as he blew on his drink to cool it down he saw Luigi going downstairs into the living room. His slow steps and half-closed eyes were clear signs that he had just woken up.
"Oh, hi everyone," Luigi greeted them with a tired smile.
"Hey," Elliott greeted back before taking a sip of his coffee.
"Good morning bro. Did you sleep well?" Mario asked his little brother as he finished making Elliott's breakfast.
"I've known better... I'm not asking you because you look like you're in great shape. As usual, actually."
Mario laughed at his brother's comment, he knew him so well. He then brought a plate with slices of bread and blueberry jam to his guest.
"There you go, enjoy!" Mario said as he handed the plate to Elliott. "By the way, Lu," he said as he turned to his brother, "I'll have to stay with Peach for a while, just for a few administrative things, so I won't be home tonight. So I trust you to take care of our guest if he wants to stay, okay?"
"You know me, bro, I'll take good care of him!" Luigi smiled at his brother.
Mario smiled back and patted his brother's shoulder, agreeing with everything Luigi had said.
"I knew you would say that!" Mario said happily. "Do you want me to make you something for breakfast before I go to the castle?" He then asked, ready to make breakfast for his little brother.
"Don't worry, I'll do it myself. But thanks anyway," Luigi reassured his brother.
"Okay, good! In this case, I'm going! Peach and I have a lot of work ahead of us."
Mario smiled at them and took a spare key from his house before waving goodbye to them and leaving the house, now running in the direction of the castle. Luigi waved back and watched his brother leave. Mario was seemingly happy and excited to see Peach, which didn't surprise Luigi at all because he knew they had one hell of a bond. After all, they had known each other for many years.
