There it was. Darkness. Darkness in all directions.

I couldn't understand, but, wasn't there supposed to be something here? A light, perhaps?

I walked blindly in the thick darkness around me.

I saw a hole of bright light.

I saw more. And more and more.

I decided I'd walk until I'd found the source.

...

I found a girl.

She was sitting on a bed of those wonderful stars.

It was beautiful.

"I'm sorry, but were you crying?" I asked the girl

"I'm sorry, but were you crying?" I asked the girl.

She sobbed.

"I.. I felt so lonely!" She sniffled, "I just can't seem to stop!"

"..." I was silent for a while.

"But now, someone's here! I didn't think anyone would come.. but now you're here, in front of me!"

"If you're happy, then stop crying. Honestly, Space..."

The girl stopped crying. "Huh?" Her eyes narrowed, "how did you know my name?"

What? How did I know her name? But there's this feeling inside of me.. that this girl was one of my old friends...

"That's so unfair! You knew my name, and I don't even know yours, and now I have to ask for your name!" The girl started crying.

"It's Time." I told her.

The girl lightened up. "Time. Timetimetimetimetime Time. Time!" She smiled.

"What are you doing?"

"Saying your name 8 times. 8 on its side is infinity, that's how I'll remember forever and ever."

"Hm, I see."

"Where did you come from, Time?"

"If we're to give it a name, I'd call the start." I said.

"Does that mean we're now the middle?"

"But this is where you started, right?"

"We can! This place has changed."

"Has it?"

"Yes, because you're here with me now, so before was the start, and now is the middle."

"If there's a start, will there be an end?"

"Probably."

"The start was lonely, will the end be lonely too?"

"I don't think so."

Then Space started crying again.

"You cry alot, don't you?" I asked her.

"Yes, because the more I cry, these stars appear, and they kind of make me feel better."

I'd already noticed that, but I thought it would be rude to point that out.

"So, from the start, you've been here making stars?"

"Yes. Because when there's nothing, I want to turn it into something! Does that make sense?"

"I guess."

"What kind of things do you do, Time?"

"I can move the universe." I said, "I can jump to anywhere or anytime I've already experienced, forwards, or backwards."

"Oh, that looks hard." Space's eyes turned white.

"Making stars sounds harder to me." I said.

"No, it's easy, look!"

She started crying again.

"Space.. Oh wait, this is actually a good time to demonstrate."

I rewinded the time. Space's figure sped along.

"Hey, don't start crying just to prove how easy it is, okay?"

"How did you know what I was going to do?"

"That's my power, you already cried before, so I went back in time to stop you."

"You know, we've only met, but I think I've known you far more than I could have ever known."

"I feel the same."

"But I can't remember talking to you like this before, like how I don't remember crying before you changed what happened."

I was silent.

"Hey, how did you find me in the first place?"

"I followed your stars, and here you were."

"So that means, if we ever get separated, I can just cry and you'll find me again, just look for my stars!"

"Sure, but I don't like the thought of making you cry."

"I won't have to, unless you leave me."

"Well, I guess I'll stay, it doesn't look like someone else is out there anyway."

"What if there was?"

"Well, we should go look for them too. We can't just leave them alone!"

"Sure."

We explored the darkness

We explored the darkness.

There was nobody there, I thought.

The more we saw the darkness, the more Space would cry.

I didn't want to see her cry. I didn't want Space to feel lonely.

Much to my relief, she agreed to rest when I suggested to.

I closed my eyes for a while.

...

I opened my eyes, and there I was, back in the dark.

"Space?"

No response.

What happened? All the stars are gone too. Did I make a mistake?
