Lycon and his werewolves had surrounded Artemis and her hunters, they had fought each other for a long time but eventually due to overwhelming numbers, the werewolves had surrounded and weakened the hunters. Artemis and her hunters had fought valiantly but now they were defeated, bruised, cut and miserable. The werewolves had reduced them to just under half their numbers and their stores of silver arrows had been depleted. They had positioned themselves in a circle surrounding the one tent that had not yet been burnt, Artemis's. It was around 10 o'clock at night when Thalia went to see Artemis. Artemis had been clawed on the shoulder at the very start of the battle and had lost a lot of golden Ichor. She knew that she and her hunters would soon be killed and she felt sickened to think of their bodies strewn along the ground in their very own pools of blood. When Thalia came and sat down next to Artemis to report that they were out of silver arrows, Artemis moaned and wished she could get in touch with her brother, Apollo, and ask him for help. But she was to weak from loss of blood.
"I wish I could save you all." She said to her lieutenant.
"It's all right my lady, you could not foresee the werewolves attack."
"If I could do anything to defeat these werewolves I would. But I don't think there is anything we can do now, I cannot contact my brother and he cannot send help......oh but he can!" The sudden realisation of a possible safety for her hunters came to Artemis suddenly and she sat up quickly, before wincing and sitting back down.
"What is it my lady?" Thalia asked, concerned for the immortal goddess.
"When I was just about to start the hunters, all those centuries ago, my brother thought it would be very dangerous, I assured him it would be, he went off for a couple of days and then came back with a gift for me." Artemis explained.
"What was the gift?" Thalia asked, intrigued.
"A spell. When used it will summon a guardian, when called the guardian would protect the hunt until it dies or is relieved of duty but it has partial immortality like you Thalia. The thing is that the guardian will be brought back from the dead in order to help us. The guardian was the best hero that ever lived, someone like Hercules, Achilles or Theseus. I am hoping for a heroine like Amelia Earhart. The guardian has certain powers though, I do not know the full extent of these powers however it wasn't made clear in the spell. Anyway, the moment he is called upon he will exterminate the immediate threat."
"Call him my lady, use the spell."
"I am hesitant however, Hercules is regarded as the greatest hero to ever live by many, but he was vile and having him around camp would be insufferable."
"My Lady I'm sure your brother would not have sent you a sexist pig to guard us, besides we can always make him do the camp chores."
"No. He is only to be a guardian not a servant. If he doesn't want to do something chore-wise he doesn't have to. It says in his "contract"."
"Contract?"
"Yea, it's written down on paper and everything"
"We should let the girls know, we should put it to a vote"
"You're right Thalia that would be the best thing to do" with that Artemis got out of her bed, rather stiffly, and exited the tent, Tahlia followed her.
"GIRLS!" Artemis shouted to her hunters. " I need to discuss something with you all." The hunters walked to her, most of them were limping. "We have come across something that could save us all" at that every hunter turned to listen. "A very old spell that my brother gave me could very well save us. But it comes with a price. The spell will give us a guardian that will look over us until he dies." At this most girls had lost their enthusiasm about the idea, having a boy watch over them was not what they wanted. "He is solely for protection so we can't make him do chores or anything" every girl groaned. "But he is our best chance of staying alive at the moment. He was one of the greatest heroes of his age but he died and we will be bringing him back to life."
"So we're going to have a zombie as a guard" said a girl from the crowd.
"No he is a human and will be as if he has lived his whole life and never died." Artemis stated. "I want a vote as to what we should do do we summon the guardian or not, every one who thinks we should raise your hand." Not surprisingly, nearly everyone put there hands up. "Alright I will summon him." Artemis started to mutter words in Ancient Greek and soon she stopped. The silence was deafening. Suddenly a white light started to glow away from the group. They all turned to look at it and could even see werewolves looking at it to. The white light kept getting brighter and brighter until not even Artemis could look at it and instead had to turn her head. And then it was gone. In its place was a figure clad in a black and green jacket and black and green trousers. He had a black and green cloak on over his jacket and his hood covered his face. He was wearing a belt that had on it two knives and a gun holster on his right side and a sword strapped to his left side and a big black bow and arrow quiver on his back . He then faced the werewolves and quick as lightning took out his bow and shot 5 werewolves in the space of 5 seconds. The werewolves howled at the loss of their brothers and quickly ran to rip the guardians head off. He then pulled out his sword which was a mixture of black, bronze and silver. He then started to engage the werewolves and started to kill them with ease. They didn't stand a chance. He cut through the werewolves like a hot knife through butter. The hunters stared at him as he killed the werewolves, totally oblivious to the blood that he was now drenched in. After he had killed nearly every werewolf, the rest fled. He paused for a moment before turning towards the hunters "take care of your wounded nothing will attack you for now, there is not a monster within a 50 mile radius."
He then jumped onto a sturdy branch on one of the tallest trees in the wood in which the hunters were camping. He sat down on the branch and took out his bow. He had it ready on his lap as if he was waiting for a monster to shoot. "Quickly hunters tend to the wounded." Artemis shouted. "Thalia, report to me on how many hunters we have left, and who has fallen."
"Yes my lady, and what will happen to the boy?" she said the last word as if it was a horrible insult.
"We will keep him around for a bit while we still have small numbers but then we will release him or we will kill him." Artemis answered. Thalia nodded.
"Very well" Thalia said as she walked of to help the wounded. Artemis looked at the boy in the trees and smirked he would not last long she told herself as she flashed off. She had to report to Olympus and thank her brother.
Guardian POV
Up in the trees the guardian could hear every word that was said. He was aware that every girl hated him, even though he had saved their lives and had only been in their camp for less than ten minutes. One consoling thing he thought was that if they dismissed him, he would be free to live his own life. He grinned at that, there was nothing he wanted more. But he was glad that when he had come back that he had been given a uniform with a hood, he didn't want anyone to know who he was. Because these were the people that had killed him. Sure it wasn't them in particular. But it was their cousins and family who had. He didn't want them to know who he was. Because he was Percy Jackson. And they had killed him. 15 years ago.
