Riley POV:

The other boys kept rambling about whatever they were talking about. I just sat and stared at the roof thinking, why is the school so homophobic? How come the principal is fine with it? And why is this roof so goddamn White?! I decided to listen in on what my friends were saying since the roof began giving me a headache.

"Jeremyyyy!!" I could hear Max say, I thought he was just yawning but he was somehow on top of a locker. Jeremy just put his hand to his face and sighed. I could tell he was sick of Max's idiocy, so I just sat back and let him suffer. Why? because he's annoying? Yes. Jeremy's that type of guy that just never stops talking, I guess him, and Max are both like that... I look back at them and notice that Jeremy is trying to pull Max off as Max just jumps across the lockers. I heard a buzz from my phone; "Honey, I got to go to work now - please get home and look after Jerrick!!" A message from my mum, just great. Just as I was about to get up, I hear a loud THUMP and looked up, to where I saw Max face down on the concrete floor in pain. Of course, just like his personality Jeremy just stood there laughing his ass off at him. Standing up I grabbed my bag from my locker and slid it on. "Where you off to Cooper?" Jeremy called to me. "Home. Gotta make sure Jerrick doesn't kill himself." I said with as much annoyance in my voice as I could making it sound like I didn't like my brother. Although of course I loved my brother, I mean he's only 6.

Stepping out of the locker room, I speedwalked as fast as I could to the door as I knew some of the "guys" where nearby the locker room. I doubled-checked that the coast was clear and walked straight to the exit. But right when that happened, someone pulled me into a room just as I was about to get outside. I pushed the person off and they seemed to back into the darkness. I stood my ground and asked who it was. The person (who I could only see the figure of) shrugged and pointed to a desk. I'd never been in this room before, so I just stared at the person in confusion. "Who are you?" I asked. The person didn't budge and kept pointing at the desk. I walked over to the deck and as I was about to the person walked over to me and hugged me. I immediately registered that this was a girl hugging me, when this happened, I saw a slight flash of light by the door. I pushed her away and I walked out. After leaving I saw at the corner of my eye another girl with her phone out just watching. I got out of the school finally, breathing a sigh of relief.

As I got out of the building, I noticed that it was heavily raining outside. I was annoyed obviously, and it didn't help that I forgot my umbrella today. I walked through the rain getting my dark, swept back hair wet. I didn't really care as I had nothing planned after school. My brother obviously wouldn't care and there's things called hairdryers and towels if you didn't know. Walking through the rain I come across a row of shops, about halfway through my journey. Looking at each of the stores, they all come in the same look from the outside to fit the aesthetic. By looking through the windows though, you enter a whole different world just by seeing all the colours and things inside. Well except for the uniform shop. Walking passed a few of the shops I gazed in in awe as every store that I passed was filled with completely different things than the one before. Books, clothing and food are filled up in these buildings. All neatly or scattered around to fit the look of it to lure in customers easier. Ever 5 or so shops there's always an alley. I glance down each of them to double check if there's anything easy to nab from there. I walked down the sidewalk looking down each one of them. Trash... Rubbish... Oooh? What's that? Something shiny appeared in my vision stopping me instantly. Of course, it was still heavily raining, but I decided to step off the path down the alley to go check out what the shine came from. A phone? A watch? Maybe a ring! Oh- never mind it's just a broken glass bottle. I kicked the bottle away behind a trash can and when that happened, I heard a whimper. The bottle I kicked rolled back down out from behind the trash can. I kicked it again and heard the same cry. It sounded like someone my age or perhaps younger.

I realized that someone was hiding behind the can, so I walked over to go see who it was. The moment I started walking, the person or should I say "kid" due to his height ran out from his hiding spot and ran as fast as it seemed he could. "Wait!" I called to him. He didn't stop until he ran into a wall. I walked up to him taking in his appearance as he crawled into a ball at the wall crying. He had sandy blonde hair- it didn't look well kept; He looked as if he had brown eyes, but I couldn't tell due to him crying so excessively. His skin pale as ice as if he hadn't gone into the sun in years. I had never seen the boy before, but he was wearing our school uniform but very dirty, due to the state of the alley. I clicked back to my senses and went over to the boy. He was crying heavily and looked like he was ready to be beaten up or something. Upon further inspection, his eyes were hazel and he had blood all over his face. Was he picked on here? Is that why there was glass everywhere. "Hey... I'm not going to hurt you kid" He looked up at me and whined. "I-I'm not a kid!" He scoffed under his breath. "I'm 16." He said still with a whimper in his tone. "Yikes sorry didn't know that was a touchy subject." I said, he must've thought I was mocking him because he just began crying again. "Hey, calm down I told you I'm not going to hurt you!" I said making me sound protective or something like that. "They all say that! Besides your wearing our uniform, everyone hates me!" He yelled at me, still protecting his head from possibly being hurt still. "Dude, I've never even seen you before!" I said raising my voice at him a bit. He just stared at me in confusion. "You d-don't know me?" He sounded like he wanted to get beat up. Through his words I noticed he was actually quite cute... Wait what?! I just met this guy... IN AN ALLEY WAY! What are you even thinking Riley, think of your friends. I looked back at him, and he just stared at me, his tears evaporating into his skin and blending in with the rain falling from above. He soon got up and patted himself off and began walking out of the alley. "Wait!" I called to him, he stopped and turned his head slightly. His hazel eyes shined with the rain as he waited for what I was going to say. "What's your name?" I asked him, I didn't want to just address him as the boy I found in a random alleyway after all. The boy sighed and looked at the ground. "Your friends with Jeremy, right?" He said with a saddened tone. "Yes...?" I let out a breath whilst saying it making me sound out of breath. "Ask him. He'll know my name." He said sternly and turned around. I was astonished, how did he know Jeremy and I didn't know him. But by then I noticed he had walked from the alley. I need his name. I quickly ran up to him where I found him walking the same way I needed to go to get home. I grabbed his arm and forced him to turn to me. Obviously by doing this I triggered something in him causing him to start crying again. "Wait, sorry! I just really need your name." I said basically pleading him now. "I already tol-" He tried to say, but I cut him off, "No. I need your name." When I said this, he looked like he caught a cold or something, because he turned very pink. I had my hand on his arm still and we both just kind of stared at each other for a moment. "Uh- Sorry," I said, I'd never really grabbed someone's arm like that before. "It's... Okay, I guess," he said nervously. He looks away for a moment, most likely contemplating if he should say it. "My name- erm. Just call me Ash," he said, he sounded like he was nervous saying it. I ignored it and smiled. "I'm Riley, nice to meet you." I said to clear the silence. "I know..." he says. I let go of his arm and turns to continue walking.
