My eyes adjust to the darkness.

The headlights of a passing car shine in my face. It takes a second for me to regain my eyesight, and look at the deserted road.

Its a backroad, with barely any cars passing by. The streetlights are completely useless letting the entire place be covered in a blanket of darkness. There's a stoner or two leaning against the trees lining the road. None of them even move an inch as I step over them to make my way to the other side.

My car is in the same place that I parked it yesterday— on the other side of this dark ugly road.

Its cherry red half-faded paint stands out in the gloomy street. My hands graze the handles in greeting before pulling open the door of the drivers seat.

The faint smell of the tobacco scented air freshener hits me and I close my eyes and drink in the nostalgia for a minute. Ian had given it to me for my birthday last year when things weren't this messy.

I shake off the feeling, turn on the car and start driving towards the Blacks business building.

............................................................

In the dark, the building looms above the others like a haunted house. The dim lighting inside makes it look like an abandoned mental institution. The guards that were once staged outside are no longer there. Probably because they don't have any direct orders from Blacks second. I pad closer to the structure and turn the corner all while adjusting the knife on my belt.

My eyes spy the guard standing half asleep at the side of the elevator. He has a firearm that I can't make out the model of because its so far away. Its dangling stupidly from his belt. His legs are stretched out in front of him as he leans back against the marble tiles decorating the walls.

Its a shame that I'm not here to knock him out, because it would be extremely satisfying to knock some sense into his careless face.

My glove covered hand brushes against the glass of the door when I swipe the card to open it.

The soft beep that sounds, startles the guard and he stiffens and fumbles clumsily for his rifle when he catches sight of me. His eyes widen when I make my way towards him silently and he raises his rifle in shaky warning.

"Hello Colin Smith"

His eyes widen further when he realizes that I know his name.

Dumbass. its on his uniform.

His gun quavers in his hands and I can see him trying to figure out what sort of power I have here.

"You know that there is a new owner of this building." My hands unzip my duffel bag," Don't you?"

       He nods, eyeing me carefully,

"You can drop the gun now Smith"

He slowly lowers the rifle,

"Good man,"

I show him the papers of ownership of the building. "See that?" I gesture to them, "Thats my name"

I see the realization dawning on him as he takes a step back and bumps into the wall right behind him. His rifle clutters to the ground as he gapes at me in shock.

I don't offer an explanation instead giving him a smile before strutting past him and into the elevator. I let myself sag inside the elevator when the doors close.
