Chapter 1

Ena's POV:

I was sitting at my desk in the same boring old classroom I see five times a week. There were about 20 minutes left of my one-hour class, and the teacher just had to assign us more homework adding to the piles we already had. Why does school have to be such a pain? I want to go home already! I wish I could skip like Mizuki. I stared out the window that connected the two doors on the right wall, with desks aligned vertically across the window.

Out the window, you could see the hallway. Not only did I see the hallway, but also I saw a pink-haired person walking down the hall. They had a red ribbon on their hair and a uniform that looked slightly different than the plain old uniform everyone wore.

At this point, I don't even have to guess who that was. It was no one other than Akiyama Mizuki. However, I wondered why Mizuki was wandering around the halls, especially at these times. I let my curiosity take over and asked the teacher for permission to go to the bathroom.

I walked out of the classroom and sprinted over to Mizuki, who was heading towards the stairs. "Mizuki!" I shouted, trying not to be too loud but also loud enough for Mizuki to hear me. They turned around and noticed me. "Oh, hey, Ena~!" Mizuki said in their usual cheerful voice while giving a smile bright enough to light up a pitch-black room. "What are you doing here at this hour?" I asked with words filled with curiosity. "I was chilling at the rooftop after school because the weather was nice and slept without noticing." They said while laughing awkwardly. "Yeah, we did log off Nightcord pretty late last night." I smiled. "By the way, shouldn't you be at class right now? I'm pretty sure your class ends soon." Mizuki said to me. "You're right. I should go back to class before my teacher gets suspicious." I said, sounding a little worried.
"Okay then! See you!" they said as they walked away and waved at me.

I rushed through the hall and made it to class. I walked in and sat at my desk. Fifteen minutes flew by, and I heard nothing but thoughts take over my head as the class came closer to ending.
I suddenly heard the bell. I sprinted out of the class. I walked by the stairs that led to the rooftop and remembered when Mizuki mentioned that the weather was nice. So I let my curiosity take over again and walked up the stairs.

I opened the door to the rooftop and placed my bag on the floor. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and let the cool wind blow through my hair before I started looking around. To my right, I noticed someone resting with their back on the wall, sleeping. And again, to my surprise, It was Mizuki. I thought they left already.
I walked over to where they were and sat beside them. I gently placed my hand on theirs, trying not to wake them up. I closed my eyes and let the cold breeze whoosh through me again.
Suddenly, I felt someone's head rest on my shoulder.
I should've known they were awake. "You're awake, aren't you?" I said in an obvious-sounding tone.
"Wide awake..!" They said while rubbing their eyes.
I let out a sigh and looked up at the sky, remembering something...

"Mizuki, do you remember that day, when I told you I'd wait as long as I could for you to open up?" I asked.
"Yeah, I remember..." They said, with slight sadness coming from their voice. "You still haven't said a word," I said sounding somewhat angry. "Don't rush me!" Mizuki said. "Fine, I won't. But can you at least tell me something?" I asked. "Hmm..." Their thinking face turned into a smirk. That means teasing, or just Mizuki completely forgetting the word 'Serious' even exists. "What if I told you, in my past life I was a bug that got hit by a paint pallet of a famous artist who hated bugs and then got reincarnated into a human," Mizuki said, almost bursting into laughter. I'm sure that's not true, judging by the way they're acting.
I decided to just go with it anyway. "There's no way you're being serious. Also, I won't care that much about who you were in the past, even if you supposedly were a bug. I only care about your happiness at least, and that you're here right now." I said to Mizuki. They smiled and hugged me tightly. "So you don't hate me?" Mizuki asked, which left me a bit surprised hearing that. "Of course, I don't hate you! At least not now."
I said laughing a bit. Mizuki stayed quiet.
"Also, Mizuki... you already know I love you, so there is no point in asking anyway," I said as I finally hugged them back. "Haha..yeah, I guess it sort of was a dumb thing to ask. Thank you, Ena," Mizuki said. I felt a cold gust of wind. "I love you too," Mizuki said quietly, and just after they said that the bell rang. "Looks like you've got to get going!" Mizuki said. "I should hurry if so I wont be late! See you on Nightcord, Mizuki!"I said as I grabbed my bag and rushed down the stairs. I had to run to class since it was kind of far from the roof.
