Mr.Diallo, I'm sorry but there is nothing we can do. With the way your GPA looks now, you will not be graduating with your class. Not only have you not turned in your assignments, but you also don't even attempt to show up most of the time," The guidance counselor informs.

Jaycein was not trying to hear some shit he already knew. Getting good grades wasn't something he was accustomed to caring about since his mama left to make money overseas. Once he realized he wouldn't get accepted for scholarships just off talent he decided to step his game up. " Ms. Efiya, there's nothing y'all can do to help me?" He questions, dragging his hands down his face. She sighs, "There might be one thing, but you're going to have to want to do this Jaycein.
There are no more shortcuts, you have to put in the work, or you will fail." She pointed a stern finger in his direction.  He nods, ready to hear her solution to his problem. " Miss Cynn Vasea, you may be familiar with her?"

Oh, Jaycein was more than familiar with Cynn Vasea. "Yeah, so?" He questions, a little agitated that she even brought her into the equation.

"Miss Vasea tutors every Tuesday and Thursday in our library but in your case, she has agreed upon adding Wednesday as well for you to actually be able to catch up with the rest of your classmates. By the end of April, you will have all of your credits plus a written referral of my assistance given to your teachers stamping recognition of completion." Ms. Efiya appeared exuberant about the idea; little did she know the underlying problem this would be for him.

Last year the two got into a verbal altercation where she ended up slapping him so hard, he felt the tingling sensation against his cheek for two days. Although he knew he deserved it, it rubbed him the wrong way that she felt comfortable putting her hands on him knowing he wouldn't hit her back.

"Is she the only tutor available?"

"At the moment she is, but don't worry, Ms.Vasea is more than capable of guiding you through homework assignments and aiding in reliable note-taking skills." Ms. Efiya reassures. Behind her desk she jots down signatures and stamps on paper and document information on her computer.

"Well, whenever there is another. Please let me know." He counters.

"Will do Jaycein. Alright nie, have a good rest of your day."

"Yes, ma'am you too." Jaycein collects his bag and leaves Ms. Efiya's office with a compiled mixture of feelings. Contentment, knowing he would succeed in getting his academics in order, and doubtfulness if his relationship will be affected. Zalika was a very jealous person when it comes to him, it could be the simplest encounters and an argument could take place right after. He honestly didn't have the energy for bickering but mentally prepared himself anyway.

"What did the lady say, boy?" His fathers drunken voice fills the dimly lit living room.

This is one of the main reason he wants to leave this damn town. His pops was fake hurt that mama left because of his lack of loyalty and chose to wither away in sadness and alcohol instead.

"Gotta get a tutor." He mumbles, hobbling up the stairs two steps at a time.

"A tutor? Dumbasses need tutors! You a dumbass?" The old man slurs from downstairs. Jaycein ignores the comment and slams the door to his room shut.

'Just five months mane, five months and you gone' he reminds himself.

Pulling out his phone he checks his emails, desperately searching for an apartment acceptance. He knew he couldn't keep staying here, either he was going to lose his mind or put hands on his pops and he rather just take the latter and get out of the situation. Without any luck he chucks his phone with ease to the end of the bed. Placing his hands above his head he sits and wonders how the fuck he was going to deal with Cynn.

On top of everything, his girl has been doing a little too much for his liking. Now Jaycein wasn't a controlling dude, best believe Zalika was going to do as she pleased. However, instead of wanting to spend her time with him, her focus shifted to partying and having fun with her friends. Nothing was wrong with that and he'd continue to let her have her fun, but he'd also like to enjoy her time as well.

As the evening passes by and night approaches so does his hunger. A pineapple-turmeric smoothie, a bowl of watermelon, and a warm bowl of blueberry oatmeal occupied his attention, he gobbled each food item till there was nothing and laid his head down to recover from his indulgence. He internally wished he had one of his mama home-cooked meals right about now, she made the best plate of barbecue chicken, acre peas and rice, macaroni, greens and cornbread. Man, he missed her.

The ring of his phone fucked up his concentration, the number wasn't saved in his phone yet it was a local number. "Hello," he grumbled. "Um, Jaycein? It's Cynn. Ms. Efiya gave me your number. I was just calling to see if you were going to come tomorrow. If not, then I need to know so I'm not wasting my time."

The fuck?

"You coulda texted dat shit. You wanted me to hear yo animosity or sum?" He mean mugged, face scrunched up at her audacity.

"I don't have any animosity towards you. We're here on the phone so can you answer my question? Because our first session is tomorrow, so is that a yes or a, no?" She rebuttals.

"Yeah, I'll be there." Jaycein hangs up on her, rolling over to go to sleep. He ain't got time for no naggin.

The phone rings once again. It's Cynn. "What girl?" He huffs into the phone.

"Hang up on me again like you crazy. Be there at three thirty."

She hangs up this time, leaving Jaycein glaring at his device. "Ouu she betta be glad."
Tomorrow was going to be a long day for the two of them.

Hope this was a good start.
