After two days, Light woke up. The entire time he slept, Sabre was at his side. He slept on the floor by the bed and tried his best to spoon feed and keep Light fed and at least sort of healthy. Rainbow kept his distance the whole time, but seemed interested in Light. Still, he didn't get close.
When Light did wake up, it was late at night, and Sabre was drifting in and out of sleep. Sabre saw movement in the dark from the corner of his eye, but didn't really register it until it climbed onto the floor and attempted to crawl into his arms.
Groggily, he sat up, barely able to see Light. The small Steve's eyes seemed to glow in the dark, catlike. "Light-?" Sabre groaned in the dark. The Steve nodded into Sabre's chest and wrapped his arms around him. Sabre returned the hug carefully.
Maybe if he was more awake, he would have celebrated Light's awakening a lot more, but he was exhausted and it had to have been 3 am. He pulled Light a little closer to him and resigned into sleep again. He could be happy in the morning.
When he did wake up, Light was gone. Sabre was still laid out on the floor, and a fluffy white scarf was laid out next to him. He vaguely remembered Light wearing that.
Somewhere under him, he could hear the sound of something sizzling. Like food. All of the sudden he felt like he hadn't eaten in years. Had he eaten in the last two days? Maybe not. He only remembered Light.
Sabre got to his feet, wincing a little at how sore his body was. That's what he got for sleeping on the floor. He glanced to the steps downstairs, where the sizzling was coming from. Either something nice was cooking, or someone got lit on fire. Both sounded reasonable, knowing Sabre's life. He made his way down the stairs.
On the main floor, Rainbow was on top of the furnace, smacking it with a wooden sword every few seconds. Across the room, Light was trying to fit himself in a shulker box. And it was working very well. Oh god.
Sabre immediately ran to Light and grabbed him, careful of his bruised arm. Light screeched something unintelligible, but clung onto Sabre's arms and didn't let go. Sabre looked to Rainbow expectantly, who continued to try and stab the furnace.
Sabre sighed. "Why are you trying to slaughter the furnace?" Rainbow frowned and ignored him, continuing to hit it.
"Come on, man. Give me an answer." Sabre tried to adjust his hold on Light, but Light refused to budge, keeping his chicken onesie in a death grip. Rainbow wasn't making this easier; he felt like a babysitter. Or a father. Sabre shook that thought away.
"It's growling at me." Rainbow mumbled, his voice soft and quiet. Sabre raised an eyebrow at Rainbow. He didn't hear any growling.
Then it clicked. "Ohhh. It's sizzling, that's what meat does. Are you cooking something?"
Rainbow stopped hitting the furnace and opted to glare at it instead. "Pork." He muttered. Sabre gave him a little nod of acknowledgment.
"Pork is good." Sabre shrugged, still trying to get Light into a holdable, comfortable position that didn't have fingernails digging into his skin through his onesie.
"Light, that hurts." Sabre pulled his arm away from Light's vice grip. Light gave him a pouty look, then readjusted his grip to Sabre's back. In the background, Rainbow kicked the furnace. Sabre really was babysitting two children.
Then Sabre heard something. Light and Rainbow didn't seem to hear it, so maybe he was crazy? No, no, he heard it again. A boom sound. An explosion.
Then there was another, louder explosion. Sabre winced as Light jumped in his arms and tightened his grip even further. Rainbow backed up, momentarily slipping into his sink. (which was really a cauldron, but who was Sabre to judge) Sabre gave it all his effort to tear Light off of his body and set him down to look around outside. He couldn't see much out the window, so he carefully opened the door.
