A triangle shaped, white starship flew through the great vastness of space; speeding past multiple stars and planets of different shapes, colours and sizes. A fast, whiteish-yellow ball of energy zoomed past the starship, narrowly missing the window.
A tall, brown haired girl sat at the control system, constantly tapping buttons and squinting into the distance. She wore a white long sleeved top with the same coloured pants to match. A greyish-tan belt ran tightly around her waist, weapons hanging from the sides; long white boots and a creamy coloured cloak finished it off.
Suddenly she stood up and pointed, shouting "There it is! I can see it! Calista, we've got it!"
A few more girls wearing similar outfits but in a light blue colour, rushed into the room, asking multiple questions. "Hold on, just wait," Calista commanded from the back of the room, holding up her hands. The flow of questions quickly stopped, and the small crowd of girls parted, leaving room for Calista, the second-in-command, to make her way to the front.
"Ok! Good job Tierra! We need to land straight away. We should be... hovering right above the city of... it looks like... Evader," she said, studying the map on the screen. "The ruler of Evader, Prince Aidan, might be able to help us. I heard he knows the planet of which the Cryptos base is located."
Diana, a girl with long braided hair, boldly stepped forward. "You said might. Will he help us?" This caused rumours to fly. Gossip broke out and the everyone began talking amongst themselves. Louder and louder the talking became and Tierra stood up, finally sick of it.
"Enough! We are landing on this planet—" she gestured out the window to the large, blue sphere they were quickly approaching "—and seeking the help of Prince Aidan Turner. I know Calista has made acquaintances with him in the past. As he knows us and is an honourable prince, I am sure he will help us."
With that, she turned back to the dashboard and pushed forward a grey lever; after she pressed the large orange button that sat beside the lever and they descended onto the large planet of Udarvis.
The Aspens walked out onto the planet of Udarvis. Their starship had landed on a big platform, which a very large building was attached to. It was a planet that was always covered with black rain clouds, and heavy rain continuously poured down in endless sheets. As far as anyone knew, it was a wet one, the surface covered in water as far as the eye could see. The rain soaked the girls almost immediately and they covered their heads with their cloaks.
Tierra lead the way, the others lagging behind. She pushed back several strands of wet brown hair from her forehead and knocked loudly on the double metal doors. A small boy opened them. "Any weapons?" he asked. His eyes narrowed down to slits. "If so, please hand them over now, or you may not enter."
Calista looked taken aback, and she raised her eyebrows.
The boy smiled. "I am sorry," he said. "Prince Aidan is extremely wary about visitors these days."
Calista nodded, and glanced up at the sky. "Alright. Give him your weapons, Aspens. We have no choice but to trust him." One by one they all moved forward, and hesitantly, gave the boy their weapons. He placed them in a box.
"You may enter," the boy said. He moved aside. As soon as they were all under shelter, he closed the doors and bolted them firmly shut. "This way," he said, and motioned for them to follow. He led them down a long corridor.
Grey carpet was covered the floorboards, lanterns hung from hooks on the roof, and many steel doors lined the walls. At the end of the hallway, the boy stopped outside the last door and then walked away. Calista stared after him, shrugged to the others and walked in.
The room they entered was the largest one. There were no windows, and a big screen was set up at the far side of the room. The wall was made of dark grey, smooth stone. Tables with computers, dashboards, controls and different machines were placed all over the room. People stood or sat at the tables, clicking on screens, chatting with other workers or fixing something.
A young, very dark brown haired man stood beside the big screen, talking to someone. "... took over our last base?" he asked an older man next to him, who was holding a clipboard and pens. The man looked down at the clipboard, made a note of something, and nodded. "Yes, Prince Aidan." He bowed and walked away.
Prince Aidan slumped against the wall. "Dammet!" he said, and his expression was one of defeat. As he turned to walk away, his eye caught on the Aspens, and he walked over to them.
"Calista! Is that you?" he asked, a hand over his mouth. "You've changed so much I... what brings you here?"
Calista smiled. "Aidan Turner! It's good to see you. Where's your crown?" she teased; she bowed, and he held up his hands in defence.
"None of that," he ordered. "We are friends. Treat me like a friend, and not a prince." He paused. "I'm not wearing a crown, because I find it uncomfortable." He turned around and clapped his hands twice, sharply. "Someone! Get these ladies towels and refreshments. Calista, are these others with you?"
She nodded. "Yes. We're here to ask for directions leading to the location the Cryptos base. They kidnapped Tyler, Tierra's boyfriend, and some others on the planet Darkwood. We need to find where the Cryptos are so we can rescue the boys and wipe the Cryptos out completely."
A man rushed up to the prince, looking concerned. He bowed. "Permission to speak, Prince Aidan?" Aidan waved his hand in the man's face. "Wait."
Aidan nodded to Calista. "Yes. Of course. We've been tracking them for hours now. They arrived here yesterday in disguise and almost broke in. Luckily we had enough men to fight them off." He rubbed his temples self-consciously.
A small girl, laden with towels, walked up to the group and offered the girls the towels. "Here you are," she said quietly. Tierra nodded and took one. Diana did after, nudging the others forward while they had the chance to get dry.
Calista squeezed some water out of her hair before continuing the conversation. "Back to business. I'm sorry to dive straight into things, but can you please tell us the Cryptos location?"
Aidan looked around nervously. "Not here," he whispered, and beckoned them over to a quiet corner. "They are located on the planet Hades, 411 837."
Calista breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you. Let us go, girls." She smiled at the prince. "Aidan, thank you."
He looked down at the floor, and back up again, his face going slightly red. "You're welcome." Just as Tierra and Calista turned to the door to leave, a loud banging that sounded from the door startled half the people in the room. Murmurs and whispers started, fearful glances were cast and people scraped back their chairs to stand.
Tierra slowly spun around. Her eyes locked with Aidan's. They were full of fear and shock. Calista noticed it too. As she rushed up to him, she grabbed him by the arm. "Aidan? Aidan, who is it? Who is knocking at the door? Aidan?"
Gunshots sounded, and then heavy footfalls were heard from just outside the doorway, and multiple door slamming. Then the sound of glass smashing, and more gunshots.
Suddenly panels of the wall slid backwards, and about fifty armed and in-uniform guards ran up to the doorway and shut, bolted and stood in front of the door. About twenty guards formed a little chain around Calista, Aidan, Tierra, Diana, and the full group of Aspens.
The prince's face was frozen in fear. "It's the Crypto's," he said, and his voice shook. "They've found a way in. The Crypto's have... found a way in." His face was white as a sheet and he was trembling.
"Aidan?" Tierra waved her hand in front of the prince's face. When no response came, she stepped forward, concerned.
Shouting came from outside the door. The door was dented once, then twice, then three times. The guards leant on the door, trying to withstand the force of the Cryptos. The door was banged once more, and then nothing happened. Everything went quiet.
All of a sudden the guards stepped back. "They're burning through!" one of them shouted.
Everyone stood, gaping in shock. Aidan stepped backwards. And as the Cryptos poured in, Aidan fell backwards.
