Betrayed by a friend who turned out to be one of the bad guys.

Spent life wandering aimlessly.

Relative of the big bad.

Was an awakened forgotten hero.

Prophesied savior. 

Was 'the spare heir' in the royal family (if female.)

Raised in an enchanted sanctuary. 

Has been haunted by ghosts for a very long time. 

Grew up in poverty. 

Parent walked out on them. 

Adopted royal. 

Inventor for the queen. 

Was a scholar and scribe for a noble.

An escaped slave for the bad guys.

Killed their family and/or friends by accident.

Lover ended up being one of the higher ups of the bad guys.
