Dazai woke up, starting is bad bad, huh? As always. Dazai reluctantly got up, stretching. The faint scent of death and alcohol was weaved into the walls of Dazai's apartment. He looked up at his ceiling, thinking about what he would do that day. It was like he established a checklist in his mind. It wasn't out of the ordinary for Dazai, it never was. It's how he lived, and there was nothing he did about it.
He got up out of bed and got dressed, his mind still in a sleepy haze. He grabbed his keys and walked out of the door, acting completely different. He looked like he was in high spirits, which was far from the truth. He walked to the agency's office, walking in with an annoying grandeur. Well, at least to his co-worker and partner, Kunikida.
"You're late again." Kunikida cut Dazai off from whatever Dazai was saying. Kunikida was pointing out the obvious, yet still being oblivious to whatever Dazai was thinking. Dazai just chuckled and walked off to his desk. "Hello, Dazai!" Atsushi greeted Dazai. "Why, hello to you too, Atsushi!" Dazai replied.
The day went as normal. Dazai annoyed Kunikida, committed suicide and failed, went on missions, didn't do his paperwork, the usual. Dazai went back to his apartment and laid down, not expecting to sleep just yet. Dazai overlooked the day, the normal routine. He ran into Chuuya that day, of course he did.
He had gotten into a regular argument. Dazai mentioned something that lit Chuuya's nerves and they argued. It was normal. Dazai had thought, "Do I have to see that slug everyday?" And yes. Yes he did. Because that was normal. It's what he told himself over and over again.
He had been telling himself that over and over again for years. That his life was now normal. He had gotten into a routine that became normal. "Normal, normal, normal, normal..." Dazai repeated in his head. It was normal. It felt sickening.
Dazai rolled onto his side, looking at his bedside table. His phone laid there, charging. He just stared at it for a while, his mind blank, surprisingly so. His brain had never been this silent without pills numbing his thoughts or when he tried drowning himself. It was silent. Nothing was heard, well, other than Dazai's breathing.
Dazai rolled onto his back again, his brain still blank. It felt suffocating, pleasingly so. He closed his eyes and saw black. No memories, no thoughts, no visions, just black. Dazai wasn't thinking, but still breathing. He just laid there.
After maybe an hour, his thoughts drowned him again. It was a nice hour of silence. Dazai groaned and looked over at the clock on his table. It read: "1:03 AM". Was he drowning everything out for longer? It felt like an hour though? Dazai brushed it off and turned off the clock. He closed his eyes and just laid there. Everything went silent again, maybe because Dazai had fallen asleep. Or maybe because everything in Yokohama had gone silent just like Dazai's thoughts.
It was eerie.
