I swear, sometimes Sam did things just to spite me. Like sending Jake and I to help my sister and Edward, together.
I couldn't shake that irritating feeling, not even when walking in such close proximity to Jake- who hadn't said a word for the past 15 minutes.
"Tell me again why Embry or Paul couldn't do this." I groaned, stepping over a large branch. The sound of nature surrounded us, a peaceful and welcome sound in contrast to Jake's shit attitude practically rolling off of him in waves.
He didn't reply, as expected. I rolled my eyes, sidestepping a tree before I spoke again.
"Hello? Athena Swan to Jacob Black..." I called out, only seeing his bare back.
Not that I was complaining about the view.
"You can't ignore me forever. Sam sent us to do this together for a reason." I jogged, finally catching up to him. Just when I was about to see his face, a tree root caught my foot and sent me falling face first. I reached my hand out to grab anything that could stop me, but nothing was in reach so I prepared my body to hit the ground.
Strong arms gripped my waist, stopping me just in time. Jake pulled me back up, steadying me so that I could stand on my own.
"Thank you." I let out a breath, looking down at my stomach in relief.
I would've fallen on it if he didn't catch me.
"You didn't think I'd let you fall did you?" He scoffed, "I'm not a monster."
Technically, we're both monsters.
"No I know, it's just...you hate me, so if I were you I would've let me fall." We resumed walking.
"I don't exactly hate you." He tilted his head a little, "That thing growing inside of you however..."
I furrowed my eyebrows, confused on what my baby did to him when it hasn't even been born yet.
"Thing? Jake, it's a baby. Probably a shifter like us." I corrected.
"You mean like Paul." He chuckled, shaking his head with an annoyed look in his chocolate colored eyes.
"No. I mean like us. The pack." I sped up a little, stopping to stand in front of him, "You can be upset with me, and whoever else you want... but leave my kid out of it."
He sighed, looking at me with a look of indifference. I took another step closer, putting a finger into his chest, "And if you refer to my baby as a thing again? I'll personally whoop your ass- imprint or not."
"Right."He pushed my finger off, making me internally wince. I don't have cooties.
The electric feeling our contact caused went away, and instinctively I wanted to feel it again. The feeling Jake gave me was different than the feeling Jasper gave me. With Jasper, it felt like my body became alive- even though he was the exact opposite. My heart started going overtime, and all of the blood in my body rushed through my veins faster.
