Chapter 2
I got up forgetting my food and grabbed my bag. I took off running, looking everywhere.
Amy was hot on my tail, "Lexi, you go straight, look through every store, I will go left then we can meet up and go right." I nodded and took off going straight. I looked through every store hoping I would find her, but found nothing.
I met up with Amy and we started going right, she found nothing of course and I was starting to freak out. We searched everywhere and still hadn't found her. We walked back to the food court and sat down; surprisingly my food was still there. I shoved it in my bag and sat back massaging my temples. What am I gonna do? Amanda is probably looking for us. I just hope and pray that she isn't hurt or kidnapped.
"Amy, what am I going to do?" I asked.
"I don't- Lexi, look!" she said pointing at something.
I looked over, relieve flushed over me. Amanda was sitting with a boy that looked around ten. They were drinking smoothies and laughing. They got up throwing the empty cups away and walked hand in hand towards the shops
I laughed slightly, "She is definitely my sister."
"Come on, now that we know she is safe, let's go get some more clothes."
"Okay, but we need to keep a close eye on her," I said.
We spent the next hour going in and out of stores. We tried on almost everything in the stores, thanks to Amy. We had at least ten bags each and decided we better get going.
"Come on we have to find Amanda," I said.
We walked around and finally found her coming out of a photo booth with the same boy. They laughed looking at the pictures. I smiled seeing my sister so happy. Ugh no I have to be the bad guy and end it for her. I sighed and looked at Amy motioning for her to follow.
I walked over to Amanda and smiled.
"Amanda, it's time to go," I said.
"Okay, well bye Billy," she said handing him a piece of paper.
We walked out, "So did you have a good time?" I asked.
She nodded blushing.
"Awwww, somebody's got a crush," I joked.
"Stop it," she said obviously annoyed.
"Well I think it's cute," I said pinching her cheeks.
She slapped my hands away, "Can we drop this?"
"Not until you tell me how you met," I said.
"Well after you two bolted I was looking for you and gave up within a minute, so I sat down and waited hoping you would realize I was gone, which you didn't," She pointed out, "And then Billy came and asked if I was okay, I told him what happened and he was determined to cheer me up."
"Does he go to our school?" I asked. She nodded smiling.
I smiled satisfied. We walked home lugging all the shopping bags.
As soon as we walked through the door, I could tell something was wrong. I set the bags down and walked carefully throughout the house. I walked in every room and as I walked in my mom's room I gasped. My mom was walking back and forth with papers all over.
She mumbled things such as, "Can't make it," "Why?" and "What happened?"
"Mom?" She looked over to me.
"Oh Lexi," She said surprised I was standing there.
"You weren't supposed to see this," she whispered.
"What is all of this?" I asked.
"Lexi, I'm sorry," She said.
"For what?" I asked confused.
"Your father, the only reason he came was because he is paying me to keep Amanda here, we can't make it on our own," She said.
I froze tears threatening to spill, "So what you're saying is he sold Amanda to you?" I whispered.
She nodded and I turned running to my room and locking the door behind me. I jumped on my bed sobbing. Why would anyone want to sell Amanda, she is such a sweetheart. And her own Father? At least she is away from that monster.
I heard banging on my door, "Lexi!"
After a while the banging stopped and I put on a sweatshirt. I opened the window and climbed down the tree running towards the park; towards my safe place.
I sat in the log for what seems forever just thinking. Thinking about why my mother had lied to me. Why anyone would sell Amanda. Why my dad left.
I heard the bush move and Amanda walked in.
"Hey," she said.
"Hi," I whispered.
"What happened Lexi?" She asked.
"Dad h-he s-s-sold you to my m-mom," I said between crying.
Amanda rubbed my back trying to comfort me, "Lexi, I am glad he did, because being there just made my life hell, being here is amazing, I have a sister and a mother who actually love me."
I stared at her, "How is it that you are more mature than me?" I asked sniffling.
"You learn to grow up fast when you live with dad," she said
We sat there talking for a half an hour before heading back.
I walked in the house and walked straight to my room after saying goodnight to Amanda.
I walked in my room to see Amy sitting in her pajamas watching a movie.
I changed into my pajamas and got snuggled into my bed.
"Night Amy," I whispered.
"Goodnight Lexi," she said.
I drifted off within seconds; into a land where I could do anything I wanted.
