Radio Contest pt1; Chapter 19

Mabel's POV

Summer's been going great for me

the sun hasn't been too warm

the birds chirp loudly

the ice cream is as cold as my enemies heart

...wait do I have enemies

anyways everything has been going great

except... my love life

I haven't found anyone this summer in Monterey

and don't remind me of my exes back in Gravity Falls

..although those vampires did steal my heart

and some of my blood-

anyways that's off topic

what I'm saying is my goal is to have a boyfriend by...next week

and before you judge me, let me explain

there's this offer by our local cafe that is:

"Got a date?
Then why don't you both dine here for FREE
By winning RADIO CONTEST!
Tune into the radio at exactly 12pm on Thursday and guess the song and artist for
A FREE DEAL AT ANY PARTICIPATING CAFE'S!

that's Cafe's not restaurants!"

...yes I memorised the whole ad

Today's a Friday which means I have less than a week to find a boyfriend and have a free meal together

how hard can that be?

Dippers POV

It was the middle of Summer

all I could wait for was Me and Mabel's Birthday happening in a few weeks other than that all I've been doing is messaging Pacifica

We've gone our on a few meet ups but nothing to special

"Dipper?" Mabel said as she came into the living room where I was

"Yes?" i said back

"Do you know anyone that would like to go out with me and have a free meal with me?" she said

"no." I said back
then continued to watch the TV

"oh come on Dipper at least help me find someone before thursday" she said

"Why do you need someone before Thursday?" I asked

"there's this offer near our local cafe where couples can go and dine for free..you know you and Pacifica could-"

"Mabel, first of all, me and Pacifica are just friends, second of all I don't think you can find someone by that time" I said back

"thanks for being helpful" Mabel said to me before leaving the room

Mabels POV

Dipper didn't help me much but he did make me think that I probably won't find anyone by Thursday

guess I'll just let that free couple meal go

...unless

Pacifica's POV

it was the middle of August which means that Mabel and Dipper's birthday was soon

I had around 2-3 weeks to get them a birthday present but I had no idea what to get them

I already forgot a gift for Dipper at Summermas and for Mabel well...let's just say there's no definite present you can get her

Last year I got Mabel a golf club from when we went golfing and defeated the 'lilliputians' or whatever they were called

and for Dipper, I got him the ghost harasses book

wonder if he's read it yet?

hmm.

anyways I don't know if they've changed since last summer I mean, Mabel's still as energetic as always and Dipper is still into the ghost things...still don't understand how that ghosts work but besides that I feel as if I don't get them a good gift they'll think I just don't care about them

or maybe I'm overthinking it

*Monday: 4 days before the radio comp*

Mabel's POV

Today was Monday, which meant that the radio comp was in 4 days I had two plans

Plan A:
I tried to get a boyfriend in that time but my habit of ignoring personal space didn't play well with some of them

Plan B:
Win the comp and get another couple to dine in and I could spy-

I mean casually gaze upon them to see my win play out

I think Plan B sounds more realistic and approachable

Well that's settled all I have to do is guess the song on the radio

I mean it can't be that hard right?

also today is the second to last day of 2023

is it just me or does it feel like Jan to Jun was a whole other year compared to Jul to Dec

also I'll try and update more often in the new year but yeah
