Chapter 12: All of the Girls You Loved Before
~ Amy's POV ~
My alarm blared a screeching chime, forcing me to wake up. My dark, cold room begged me to lay back down and go to sleep, but my work ethic pulled at my body screaming "get up!"
I groaned as I slapped my alarm clock, turning it off. I threw back the covers and crawled out of bed, feeling the ache of last night's dancing in my ankles and knees.
Gosh I'm getting old...
I stretched and yawned trying to remember the events of last night.
Work... Karaoke... Shadow... Shadow!
I raced out of my bedroom, down the hall and almost crashed into the couch trying to reach the living room.
Instead of finding the dark hedgehog, I found the pillows and blankets I had provided him last night. The pillows stacked up beside the nicely folded blankets on the couch, with a piece of paper on top of them.
A little white sheet that I recognized; it came from part of a magnetic note pad that stuck to my fridge which I used to write out my grocery/shopping list.
The paper was folded in half, placed neatly on top of the stack of blankets and when I picked it up to read it, there were only two words etched on it.
Thank you
I held the paper in my hand for a moment, studying the clean, neat handwriting.
He has very neat handwriting for a guy...
I held the paper to my chest as I walked slowly back to my bedroom, sitting down on my bed.
Sakura, my chao, climbed into my lap and snuggled my waist as I sat staring at the paper in my hand.
It was such a small, simple jester, but for some reason it made my heart swell and my face flush.
He left before I woke, without saying a word, and yet he still said everything.
He cleaned his spot on the couch and thanked me, and left without disturbing me at all.
I placed the paper on my nightstand in front of my small collections of photos and my alarm clock.
I thought about tossing it in the wastebasket in my room but it felt too important to throw away.
It felt like the first thing he'd ever physically given me to keep, even though it was just a note, a piece of paper.
I looked at the thank you note one more time before wiping the smile off of my face and heading for the bathroom.
I showered and dressed for work quickly and quietly, attending to Sakura's needs along the way, setting up her toothbrush and helping her to the kitchen for breakfast.
Today I was sporting an edgier work outfit, feeling bold after the previous night's events.
I was wearing my black leather skinny pants with a dark burgundy top and black blazer. I matched it with black closed toe heels and gold jewelry. I had crimped my hair and applied a dark eyeliner with heavy mascara to top off the look.
It was definitely a more risky outfit for work but I was feeling strangely over confident this morning, though I couldn't place the source of my good mood.
I decided to make breakfast since I had more than enough time to get to work this morning. I was up earlier than usual, since I had set an earlier alarm to check on Shadow who wasn't here when I awoke.
