Across the Stars Into a Heart

Perched on the comfortable cushions of the express, you'd let your mind wander. To all the missions you had done in the past with your friends, all the mistakes you'd ever done, all the joyful moments that ever filled your heart. It wandered through an endless pitch of memories. The darkness felt like a comforting presence as you sat alone. You had your legs spread over the couch, completely comfortable and unbothered of anyone catching a glimpse of you like this. The simple music that Pompom had forgotten to turn off before they left, enveloped you in a calming embrace. You turned your head to look outside. The stars were everywhere, dispersed across the vast space as if they had claimed ownership of the entire galaxy long ago.

Though it was only the tranquil tunes that surrounded you, you failed to hear the creaking noise of a door opening. Completely immersed into admiring the stars, you were oblivious to everything surrounding you. Including the presence that made itself known in front of you. Feeling the couch sink a bit to your left, you looked away from the twinkling stars just to see who it was.

And it happened to be none other than Dan Heng. It seemed like he couldn't get proper sleep either. Neither he uttered a word nor did you. You took notice of how his teal eyes were focused on the stars just like you. Once again, the tranquility of your surroundings took you in its arms. And you welcomed it with a happy heart. Unable to find yourself realizing that you've been staring at the man, your eyes took in his soft features.

You were shaken out of your reverie when you caught a glimpse of Dan Heng opening his mouth to say something. Still he didn't break his gaze away from the glitters that had fell from heaven. His pretty face was illuminated by the light from the distant stars, the brightness in the room of dark. Soon enough, you heard his voice break the silence between the two of you.

"are you finding it hard to sleep as well?" he questioned in a low tone, finally tearing his view away from the stars. There was a short silence before you were able to respond.

"yeah... I just can't seem to get a good rest... and you?" you responded. Your voice came out a little scratchy due to not speaking for a while. Clearing your throat, you felt slightly embarrassed from the way your voice had come out.

Dan Heng remained silent for a moment before looking back at the sky, as the express traveled on through the endless cosmos of stars. Your eyes traveled up until they stopped upon his. His illecebrous eyes that always captured your attention, and they seemed to be linked with the heavenly bodies of space itself.

"nightmares again" he spoke, his voice carrying a hint of exhaustion. You couldn't help but feel bad for him. It seemed like he often had nightmares that he got little to no sleep. He sighed before shutting his eyes in resignation. The music from Pompom's device pushed into your train of thoughts once again as you nodded in understanding of his situation.

You didn't know what to speak about at this point. But you felt curious about what he had been having nightmares of. Even if you felt a bit hesitant to ask since you might sound pushy, your curiosity got the best of you. you had to say something after those few seconds of silence anyways.

"what kind of nightmares?" you paused, before feeling the need to add something else. "If you're comfortable saying it of course! No pressure" you smiled, your tone of voice coming out a little reluctant. He listened before sighing.

"well, they are a little personal. Things that has happened in the past and... things that still haunt me since then" His face shifted to one of a melancholic expression. You nodded in understanding of his situation and looked back at the stars, your head pressing back against the cold glass of the window. It sent a shiver down your spine. You pressed your cheeks further onto the window, wanting to feel more of that coldness.
