Percy felt like he was in a zoo.

Peter looked just about as uncomfortable.

"So," the younger kid asked nervously, "How'd you meet Mr. Stark?"

"He broke me out of prison."

"Right." Peter flushed. "I knew that."

Silence.

MJ and Ned had gone home, Morgan had gone to bed, and Hawkeye had gone to...do whatever he did. Learn how to fly? Percy didn't know, and honestly, he was having a hard time caring.

Peter had been left to babysit him.

Percy figured that if it came down to it, he could deck this kid in a fight any day, even in as bad of a condition as he currently was in. He continued pacing around the room, glancing at the kid from time to time.

Yeah, Peter appeared to be generally pretty awkward and unsure of himself. But he moved with ease when he knew where he was going. He looked strong too. So basically Percy's winning or losing a fight with this kid would come down to whether or not he had ever been in a fight before. If Peter knew what he was doing while throwing punches, and the plumbing decided it didn't want to help Percy he would probably be toast.

He might make it...oh, say, 15 minutes?

But yeah...

His chances weren't looking so hot.

"Um...why are you looking at me like you're trying to figure out the best way to rip my head off?" Peter asked, tilting his head curiously.

Percy blinked and shook his head. These people were here to help him, and he was not going to tear off anyone's head. Besides, Peter seemed like a good kid. Awkward, but nice enough.

"Sorry," he muttered, "I just have a lot on my mind."

"Oh," Peter bobbed his head up and down in a quick nod, "I get it. No problem. I'll just...um...watch you...?"

Percy couldn't help his smirk. This was awkward enough as it was, he might as well start a conversation. "So. You work for Tony Stark?"

Peter's eyes widened. "Yep. Mm-hm. Intern, actually...but maybe someday it'll lead to a real job."

"Cool. How'd you land that gig?"

"Uh...I, um, I applied for a grant. I mean, a scholarship, not a grant...and Mr. Stark thought I would be a good fit. So, here I am!"

"Huh."

Something was off about this kid. He must be a genius, working for Tony Stark, but still, Percy couldn't seem to shake the feeling that he was hiding something. He didn't want to know Peter's life story, but still...

There was no way this he was a monster. He was so sweet and awkward and...

Of course, once you've sliced up cheerleaders to dust who ended up being empousai, anything seems possible.

Suddenly, Percy got an idea.

"So, you know any other interns, then? My friend has a friend who works here now, in the Architecture and Logistics Division. Annabeth Chase. Maybe you know her?" How could he not? According to Jason, Annabeth was a whole big thing in Stark Industries; constantly shocking people with her smarts.

Percy couldn't even imagine what that must be like.

Well, he knew about the constantly shocking people part; he was constantly shocking people with his stupid, but to be smart enough to get actual recognition from Tony Stark himself?
