In the tranquil realm of Valeria, where green meadows stretched to the majestic castle, daily life was marked by agricultural activities. On the dirt road, the heavily laden cart of cereal sacks seemed to heave a sigh, its load nearly complete. With hands stained by soil, I grasped the last sack with determination as the sun tinted the horizon with warm hues. Fatigue mingled with gratification, knowing each sack represented the prosperity of our kingdom.
My father, a man with a face marked by the sun and reflective eyes, approached with a proud smile. "You've done an extraordinary job, my daughter. These harvests will ensure our sustenance and support the castle."
With a grateful smile, I replied, "I will do my best, Father."
"When will you come to visit us again?" my father asked wistfully.
"Father... you know we see each other every week," I said, smiling slightly, wiping my hands along my dress. I wore a simple dress that modestly adapted to the castle's environment. The lacerations and stains narrated my life of labor, a humble contrast between my presence and the elegance of the welcoming kingdom. I was a lady-in-waiting, but every week, I had to descend the hill to replenish the castle with my father's cereals.
As I turned to return to the cart, several voices echoed with concern. A guard ran with anxiety, shouting, "Princess Jenna has escaped!" screaming at the top of his lungs, searching for the princess's figure without finding her. The citizens around me, accustomed to these moments of escape, didn't seem particularly worried.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, many women continued with their tasks in the village at the bottom of the hill, weaving pieces of fabric or tending to the gardens. Near us, the blacksmith continued calmly hammering the iron, the regular rhythm of his blows a constant backdrop. The shadow of a smile crept onto my face as I resumed my path towards the cart, aware that life in Valeria, with its routines, would continue to flow.
My eyes discovered with curiosity a hooded figure hidden at the side of the carriage. "Did he leave?" the girl asked with a calm tone, and I nodded. "Good," she said, removing the hood from her head, revealing the face of Princess Ortega, who smiled widely, likely due to the adrenaline.
Princess Ortega, the youngest of three siblings, had deep brown eyes reflecting lively curiosity. Her smile, broad and warm, illuminated her face, while light freckles stood out on her cheeks, signs of days in the sun. Her brown hair, soft and flowing, framed her face with grace.
She wore a beautiful dress, tailor-embroidered with intricate details highlighting her elegance. The fabric followed the curves of her body, emphasizing her determination to live beyond royal conventions. Princess Ortega embodied a mix of delicacy and boldness, combining her natural beauty with a strong will to explore the world outside the castle.
"Miss Ortega, outside the castle again?" I said with a small smile on my lips.
"Oh, y/n... you know I get terribly bored at the castle... at least with you around, I could distract myself with walks in our gardens," Princess Ortega justified, looking at me with eyes sparkling with amusement.
Before I could respond, the voice of the knight echoed again, likely searching for the princess elsewhere. The sound of his armor became increasingly noticeable. Princess Ortega looked at me with concern.
"I need to hide," she said anxiously.
"Go sit in front of the carriage," I quickly suggested, trying to cover her presence. "I'll handle the situation back here."
The princess smiled widely and obeyed.
The knight, after looking cautiously around, noticed me near a carriage and approached me with suspicion. "Have you seen Princess Ortega around here?"
