Chapter 10: Broken
I stared at the mark of Mom's nails on my left wrist before the maid wrapped it with a scarf.
"Ayaw mong pumunta muna roon, Miss Cresia?"
Umiling ako sa tanong ni Alexa. "Have the car ready please."
"Yes po."
I took another glance below me. He was busy instructing the men. I noticed how his lips moved but I couldn't read them. Knowing him is one of the greatest gifts I ever received.
He is there with my family for breakfast and Mom already warned me. My happy hour has expired.
I busied myself with work until I got off late in the evening. I had Diana and Riley's work piling over mine because they are on a wedding bakasyon in Bali, Indonesia. A week of stagnant paperworks is piling up on my office table.
"Cresia, drop by at the clinic first. I had a package that I need you to get and give it to Mayora." utos ni Mom, the next morning.
Another busy day for everyone. I had pancakes for breakfast and milk before we left to run those errands. It was a bit traffic going to Mayora's house and we got there past 10 in the morning.
Then we went back to the clinic to do some managing work.
"Alexa,"
"Yes, Miss."
"I want to talk with the Manager."
"Sige po. Tatawagin ko."
Lumabas siya para tawagin ang Manager ng clinic. We have four branches of Cuesta Beauty and I am currently at the main branch, the biggest branch in Makati.
I talked with the Managers of each branch. I just noticed a minor change in the management that went off the scale. It was left unnoticed but we need to make it right before it gets bigger. Mom is very particular to even a slight curve in everything.
"Miss Cresia! Magandang umaga po!"
I bowed at the workers and went inside the car. Engineer Zechariah is not around, it seems. I was content looking at him through my window for two days in a row. Today is the third day, Wednesday, but he is not around.
Mom squeezed a date into my schedule. The waitress guided me to the table. I waited for the date. I wasted two hours waiting for a date that never came.
"Who does she think she is?!" Mom angrily threw the vase on the wall. "How can she do this?!"
I stood there, letting the pieces of the glass scratch my shoulder when it broke. It stings a bit and I felt blood dripping. She is angry because of the date that never showed up. Her anger is directed to the mother of the guy.
"She let her son stand my daughter up?! She stood me up?! This is an insult!"
And she threw another vase to the wall. I moved my head to the right so the glass won't hit my face.
"Get out, Cresia. Finish your job."
I silently pulled myself away.
I inhaled a deep breath and turned to the elevator. Sa opisina ko nalang siya hihintayin. Hindi naman masakit ang sugat. Mahapdi ngunit kaya namang indahin.
