February 2024 is finally here! February features the Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day, but also Black History Month! February is a time to celebrate African American history and culture.
We encourage you to take some time to learn more about important figures who have contributed to the African American community, as well as take the time to review our specially curated reading list dedicated to highlighting Black voices in the Wattpad community. Please select one of the following prompts and create a short story. We welcome participation by Black authors and encourage you to feature a Black main character in your story.
1. Retell the Nigerian folktale by writing about how the sun and the moon became friends.
2. As a Mami Wata (water spirit), you are tasked with collecting the souls of shipwrecked pirates who died at sea. However, one soul calls out to you, refusing to be taken. What unfinished business does this person have and how does it relate to you?
3. The God of Violence and Disorder, Set, is known for causing great chaos within the Egyptian Pantheon. When he is banished to live as a mortal among humans in modern times for his crimes, your paths cross. Determined to return to his place among the gods, the two of you butt heads. Will you remain rivals or will your relationship flourish into something else?
